Hi everyone,
I have been busy the past few weeks researching puppies and trying to find one that I really like and that wouldn't drive me crazy or make a huge mess in the house.
Well, so much for wishingful thinking!!!!
I am happy to announce that I purchased a tiny toy, not a teacup, Male Maltese puppy!! He was born on 1/25/04. He is very white, except for some pinkish stains around his cute adorable mouth.
I purchased him from a store I found online called puppypetite.com, which specializes in toy breeds and teacups.
I wanted to name him Snowflake, but my daughter calls him Snowflag, so that's his official name. I even got the dogtag to prove it!
I only got him yesterday, so I have to still get him checked out by a veterinarian. I hope he checks out okay! He is so cute, very playful and active.
Once I know everything is okay, I will post pictures!!!

We want some pics kayla!!! Maybe Leonid can create an offshoot of PS.... dogscope or puppyscope where you can search for breeds acccording to size, color, breed The dogscope/puppyscope pin would be a milkbone on a rope

Well, the vet said that Snowflag was in perfect condition, so he's a keeper!!!
Here are a couple of pictures that I took of him.

Here is another. I didn't realize that having a puppy would be so expensive!!! I have already spent a mini fortune on him. He is so cute though, I know it's worth it.
OH, he has been wee wee pad trained from day one. He's such a smart puppy!

Here he is with my daughter. She was the one who picked him. I also made her promise that she would walk him, give him his baths, feed him and groom him. She said okay mommy.
So, I expect her to keep her word.

Kayla, he is ADORABLE...so absolutely cute.

We are most likely going on a waiting list for a Westie pup to be delivered in about 10-12 months. So long to wait!

Hi Kayla-
Cute doggie!! Don't let him step in the mud!!

How old is your daughter? You might be surprised at how well your daughter really does take care of the dog. My daughter is 5 1/2 and is OBSESSED with animals. She's got a roudy boxer at her dads and a cat which she can't do much with since he's heavy. We left our 14lb long haired cat at my mom & dads which she still looks for first thing when she walks into their house.

Then at my house we have a fat yellow lab which she ADORES. She walks her, feeds her, puts her outside and just includes her in everything. I think it helps that she's a little lazy since she's almost 100 pounds.

Is your little doggie a yapper? We have a toy poodle (the medium sized one) who just won't stop yapping! He's a loving dog but a prissy little defiant guy. He also is not too fond of kids although he just runs from Mariah most of the time.

Good luck, he's a cutie and I know about the expense. Our lab has hypothyroid and the poodle no tear ducts. On top of vet appts we have grooming and of course I WISH I could hire a maid to vacuum all this hair.....I vacuum 3-4 times a week!

Mara,
I love Westies too. If I had to get one more though, I would probably get a girl and it would definitely be a teacup Yorkie.

Marriahlyn,
My daughter is only 3 1/2 years old, so I am not sure how much she can help. The other day, I was upstairs and I left her on the first floor with Snowflag and I heard her screaming. I ran downstairs and he was just pulling her sock off!
As far as yapping, no he's not too much of a yapper. He does when I first put him in the crate at nights, but he usually stops after a few minutes.
I originally planned to get a chihuahua, but they are really yappers, and from what I have heard, Malteses are not as bad.
Another good thing about Malteses are that they don't shed, so I am not too worried about all the hair.
HE is so cute anyway, it doesn't matter, he just melts my heart!
Not to mention, I think this is good therapy for my anal retentiveness.

Thanks Jenn...I'm familiar with Westie of CA and also the N. CA Westie Rescue and also the SF Bay Westie groups. I've gone to a few of their 'Spring Flings' where all the westies get together etc. In the past it just never panned out to be the right time for us to have our own.

I recently found a great breeder in Mississippi whose dogs are just adorable, I'm a picky Westie lover and she has brought over dogs from Europe to strengthen her breed which is really interesting. Less inbreeding, wider variety of stock. Doesn't just sell the dogs to whoever wants to buy one, there's a questionnaire and they have to approve you. Member of the various US and International groups, has numerous US and Intl champions. If you buy a 'pet quality' pup, you have to spay/neuter it before they will give you AKC reg.

I've read way too much about backyard breeders and some of the websites out there are somewhat scary in terms of how easily they just sell a dog. Anyway...I'm intrigued. Her list is 10-12 months so we'll see, it will give us time to get ready for the pup because it is a huge lifestyle change. I also don't just want to rush into anything.

I am planning on going to Puppypetite tommorrow. Can you just let me know how the area is, how are the pups taking care of? Did they treat you nice? What kind of pup you have? and congrats!

Welcome to puppyhood!

We became the proud family of a Papillon named Bijou on February 15th. We did all the research and found this to be the best breed to suit our family (four kids ranging from 18 - 6 years of age! Imagine the craziness in my house!!). Papillons are a toy breed and are also very intelligent, good with children, very adaptable to their environment, stays small, etc...

We once had a Pugschnauzerpoo and it was CRAZY!!! No matter what we did, we couldn't train her for anything. Luckily we found someone thru my daughters school who loved her, faults and all, and adopted her. After that I knew better not to adopt a dog for it's cuteness, but better to research and be sure ::fingers crossed:: it's a breed that fits into our family.

I am sure your puppy will bring you sooo much happiness and your daughter, too. I grew up with a dog and couldn't deprive my kids of the great experience it brought me and my sisters.

Good luck and enjoy!!!!!!
