I've been so frusterated by my inability to take a single decent photo of my ring. Nicrez made the wonderful suggestion of taking a photo through a loupe - which I don't have, but am going to be buying an idealscope very soon. I keep seeing all these amazing photos of everyone's beautiful rings, and have resigned myself to not getting a decent photo until that idealscope is in my hot little hands. Well, tonight I was just mulling over the fact that all I really needed was a halfway decent magnifying glass. Suddenly I remembered that we have this incredibly cheapo compass/magnifying glass/whistle/thermometer thing that Paul takes when he goes camping. After searching through our camping stuff, I found it. The magnification of it is MAYBE 2x or 3x - very, very, weak - but enough for a semi-decent photo of the stone. These photos don't show the brilliance, but at least they're clear! So, here are some photos. The lighting is not so great, but one thing at a time here. That disgusting blob of crud between the 11 & 12 o'clock positions is NOT an inclusion. It's a water spot. I cleaned the ring a few minutes earlier, and stupidly let it air dry. I would retake, but I'm too lazy tonight. Also, I took the photos at a slight angle, so the arrows I see when I look at it straight on aren't showing up too well.I will post (hopefully even better) photos once I finally get my idealscope! on a last note...I feel like a goon posting multiple threads of my photo taking attempts, but I was kind of proud of how these ones turned out. Please bear with me, as none of my friends can even remotely relate to how exciting it is ![]() "being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage." -Lao Tzu |

---------------- Those are awesome! I can't believe those photos were made with such make-shift tools. Any side view? And your hand? A bit of digital brightening-up show very nice 3-row pave and hart prongs... who made the ring?Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

I wish I could take one of my hand...lol. You should see me with this ridiculous tool. It's the shape of a whistle, so it's completely awkward to hold. I'm right handed, so I am sitting there trying to hold the whistle/magnifying glass with one hand & the camera in the other. I tried to take one on my hand & it was like a comedy routine. I would get the whistle balanced on the back of my hand directly over my ring & then just as I finally positioned the camera over the ring and focused, either my hand or the whistle would shift & it would be lost. I was cracking up all by myself and getting really annoyed at the same time. Paul's out and about tonight, or I would have asked for his help. Once he gets home I'll probably try this again with a second set of hands. This is what happens when I have time on my hands and nothing to do on a friday night! lol. I guess I'll go down and work out now, or I'll end up posting close-ups of a hair follicle under this pitiful excuse for a magnifying glass hehe.Oh! It's a Tacori band - 3 sided pave -Summer "being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage." |

Hey its my ring twin!
![]() Keep trying with the camera. Literally I take 100 shots to get 2 good ones.
I just keep clicking if something looks remotely good to me through the viewfinder, then upload everything, scroll through them with MS Viewer and then open the ones that need a closer look in LView or Photoshop to get a close up. Then I figure out what to modify/crop, what to close....nix, etc. Then I narrow it down from there.
It takes about an hour each time I do it....but its fun. ![]() ________________________________ |

use clothes pins and tape to hold the magnifying glass :} orrr a bent wire clothes hanger and tape. for the on the finger shit a round loop of the close hanger under the finger with some wire coming up with the glass taped too it might work. playdow works wonders 2 for holding small objects to take pictures just dont get it in the prong area of the setting or you will have fun getting it out lol. also try setting the focus on the camera on a piece of paper with typed text on it then move it over the ring when not using the glass. On most cameras pressing the trigger button 1/2 way locks the focus. Then you press it the rest of the way when in position over the object. ...........
