I wanted to let people know how it turned out, and to say thanks for all of the help.  I’m positive the outcome would not have been as good and certainly much more costly.

Appraisal services by Martin Fuller and Associates.  I saw the large diamond for the first time with Gary Lester at Fuller’s today.  (I had previously viewed the side stones at Dirt Cheap’s offices before buying them.  Jim of DCD was so gracious enough accommodate us on his day off; and patient as well. Highly recommended)  I must say the large diamond is a stunner.  All of the specs check out and it truly is beautiful.  Some of you may remember in a previous thread that I was concerned about the small black crystal inclusion.  Well, it’s absolutely eye clean face up and from the side I have to really, really, really have to search for it.  Would never find it if I didn’t know it was there. I’m so happy you guys helped push me over the edge on this one.  I can’t say too much about Linda’s service as well; outstanding is an understatement.

Setting by Quest Manufacturing, referred by Martin Fuller and checked in Pricescope search.  I originally planned on buying the Vatche Truffle setting until I received a quote for $2,350, without stones. It was extra because the 60 point stones would require custom work.

So we decided to have Quest modify the setting shown below.  Instead of eight prongs on the center stone, there will be four and the other two will be moved to hold the side stones (three prongs per stone).  We thought that eight prongs may be a bit busy on the center stone and it would be cleaner looking this way.  Band tweaked slightly as well.  When we first showed Pete at Quest the Truffle from Vatche, he said OK, no problem, lots of settings look similar to this.  When we showed him the other picture he got excited and said it would be more challenging to do, but that they like doing things like that.  Cost of setting is $1,150 in 95/5 platinum.

I asked if a wax mold would be made and the ring cast and Pete said no.  For that design, it needed more handwork and would be “rolled”.  Maybe Griffin or David could explain the difference.  The people at Quest are so easy to work with.  This is first experience with a custom designer.  If people are interested, I’ll post the results.

Well, total cost around $12,600 included appraisal.  Compare that to rings we saw at well over $20,000 in higher end jewelry stores with “regular” diamonds and we think we are going to be very happy.

This shows you the value of Pricescope, a little work and the help of the friendly people here.

My sincere thanks go to the Pricesope community.   I could never have done this without you.

Remember - pictures are MANDATORY, and failure to post them could be hazardous to your health!  hehehehe

Also, can you give me contact info on Quest - I'd like to get in touch with them.  How are they in terms of being responsive?

aljdewey,

You can find more information on Quest at their website  www.questmanufacturing.com

I'll let you know more when they are finished.  They do quite a bit of work for local jewelers.  I figured they probably do good work if idependent appraisers recommend them.  So far they seem to be keen to make us happy.

Fabulous stones and ring, Noob!! A unique twist on the the 3 stone idea!!

Why use a big word when a diminutive word would be succinct!

Mara, the numbers are great!  I also had the (trusted) vendors give me their opinions as well as an independent appraiser and looked at them myself before accepting them

That's an awesome setting. Linda is great to work with isn't she? I just bought studs from her that should arrive tomorrow.
Please post pics of your completed ring from all sides. I love the three prong look of the side rings. the eight prongs look awesome too...
