These are the specs on my diamond I am looking at. First one: GIA .83ct Princess cut 5.15x5.02x3.73 VS2 H Table 69 Depth 74.3 Polish Excellent Symmetry Very Good Second one: .84ct GIA Princess cut 5.29x5.26x3.67 VS2 G Table 72 Depth 69.8 Polish Very Good Symmetry Very Good I will not post the prices, but they are both under $2600 I am pretty sure they are both really good deals but also wonder why they are cheaper then the others, now I know you can not go by only the mesurements but since I can not see either of these diamonds is there anything you think that would suprise me about them? Also Which stone do you think is better, my take on it is the Depth is better on the second one and the color is better and I think those two factors out weigh the Excellent Polish on the First one. I am buying tomorrow, so if I could get as many post tonight I would very much appreciate it. Thanks, you guyz have a great forum here, and I am proud to post on it. Thanks again!!!! >

IT is going to be a 3 stone v-prong (To protect the corners) .83-.84ct centre stone, v-prong on the side stones aswell .45tcw. Small space down the side of the ring, and then 4 channel set diamonds each side totaling .40ct. It is being done in 950PT alloy being Iridium, I think I would of prefered Ruthenium but where I am getting the ring does, I don;t think this is possible. Let me know if you guyz think this is a mistake. The ring is being Cast not die struck or hand fabbed. Will be alot like this ring http://sunjewelry.com/er2278.html , but with the V-prong on the settings. Let me know what you think, and if the stone sizes will look good together. I am planning on popping the question before easter. I am looking forward to your ideas, and opinions. Thanks so much!!! >

These do not contribute much, if anything to the appearance of the stone. On the other side, the depth and color of the second will show up. If anything, I would have prefered a stone with both table and depth below 70%, but this one is not far. All in all, if something could make a stone a better buy than either of these, it wold be some sort of light return tests since by numbers alone one cannot tell what a princess cut is going to look like. If these are the only two diamonds then you stand a better chance with the 1st diamond. One of the first steps to picking superior princess cuts is that you first weed out stones whose table is greater than their total depth. Princess cuts that have tables greater than total depths generally have very shallow crowns and the most brilliant and fiery princess cuts DO NOT have shallow crowns. Having said that however this information would be inconclusive without an thorough knowledge of the rest of the proportions and preferably an optical exam because there can be princess cuts with smaller tables that are optical disasters too. My advice to you is this if you MUST make a decision between these 2 diamonds. When you have these 2 stones side by side ... if you note a definite visible difference between the 2 ... regardless of what you think which is better, if you see a difference, get the one with the smaller table. If you're not in such a rush (and you should never make a decision like this in haste) you should not commit to ANYTHING until an independant appraiser can inspect the diamond and give you the details you're looking for. Appreciative-of-Expertise just posted an example of Rich Sherwoods appraisal which is outstanding and give the facts accurately with some outstanding pictures to demonstrate his point. Don't get fooled by numbers alone. What I learned was specs can pretty much tell you what you will get with a round brilliant stone. With fancies, such as a princess (which I bought) - all bets are off when looking at specs alone. Have you personally viewed these stones? That is key! I found an awesome diamond seller in Good old Gold who uses light leakage tests to help determine the amount of brilliance (white sparkle) and fire (colored sparkle) that the ring will provide. If interested, do a search on "Dream Team" or "Chronicle of working with a custom designer".....you may pick up some thoughts from the lessons that I tried to post in those threads! You can also purchase a scope off this site (see home page) that is somewhere around $25 that will help you assess how much light leakage you have with both stones.....simple to use....hold the stone underneath...look through....the more red on the stone, the better...the rest is light leakage. I also posted tonight "Chronicle working with an appraiser" that will give you some pics of how they look and determine a good stone. Personally, I would steer to the one with better color ....these stones are hard to get the sparkle that a round stone generally gives off, tinted stones will make matters even more difficult...in my opinion. I suggest you call Jonathon at Good old Gold (do a web search) who many consider to be extremely knowlegable withprincess stones. Best of luck! Frank "Appreciative-of-expertise"
