All the details I have on this stone: 1.186 ct E colour SI1 clarity Diameter 6.82mm average (6.80 - 6.85) Diam Dev 0.7% Total depth 61.5% (4.20mm) Crown angle 35.5 (Height 15.5%, 1.06mm) Pavil angle 40.6 (Depth 43.0%) Table Ave Size 57% (56.8%) Culet 0.8% very small Girdle 1.3% medium (min/max 0.7% thin - 2.4% sl. thick) Star/Upper 52.0%:48.0% Rates 1.3 on Halloway Cut Adviser (excellent) PRICE: Australian dollars AU$10,200 plus AU$90 above 1.10carat (AU$90 X 8 = AU$720) Grand Total AU$10,920 I am pushing to get 4 points for free, but I doubt that will happen, he may absorb 2 or 3 points so that will lessen the price a little bit. Hello Antonia!!  The diamond has very good proportions overall, but,..... The girdle has greater than usual variance compared to most "Ideal" cut diamonds. Would be interesting to see and Ideal Scope image to see if the girdle leaks significant amounts of light. I used the DIY Cut Grading system at www.gemappraisers.com and the diamond scored a Cut Class 1B. Comparable diamonds are trading on Price Scope in the $5800-$6500 range. I don't know the exchange rate for diamonds from US to Aus. You are the second person that I've seen recently mention the $90/point over 1 carat. Also a person from Oz. Odd way to figure diamond pricing. I hadn't seen it before. Hope the info helps!

Great link, thank you!! And your comments are much appreciated! Can I ask for an IdealScope image or is that an odd thing to ask my jeweller? He doesn't actually have the diamond, the gemologist has it overseas somewhere.

Most, if not all Price Scope Vendors will get an Ideal Scope for you. Sometimes the wholesaler will do it, and sometimes the Vendor has to call the diamond in. Since you posted this diamond in the other thread, and Rhino didn't comment on the girdle, it's probably nothing to worry about. Sounds like a good prospect!

Yes that does seem like quite a large variance in the girdle thickness. It is not however too thin at .7% min. I'd be interested to know what the variances are on this one too.

Thanks guys. So to clarify your thoughts, the big variance in the girdle thickness may produce light leakage and I should ask for an idealscope image?

I'm no pro, so this is just from experience looking at Sarin info,...... Most well cut diamonds don't have that large a variance in the girdle. For example, my diamond ranges from 1.1% to 1.7%, or 0.6% variance. The diamond you posted has a 1.7% variance. You might take a look at the Sarin and check the girdle graph thingy. See if it's a more straight line, or wavy. If the girdle varies from thinner on one side to thicker on the other. Straighter looking is better, and more even all around the diamond is better. Thick girdles are a great place for cutters to hide dead carat weight. You pay for it in the weight of the diamond, but you don't see that weight in the visual appearance of the diamond. With you getting popped $90/point for every point over the carat mark, a thicker girdle will pad the jeweler's wallet. Thicker girdles also present an area for light leakage in diamonds. Could also be the cutter was trying to "achieve" a crown/pavillion angles combination as well. It's called "cheating" the girdle. The pros have shown us diamonds with great sounding angles combinations. Then they post the Ideal Scope image and the IS tells a whole different story. This diamond has potential to be an excellent performer. I'd just want more info, personally, before committing to a final purchase. Or make purchase contingent on a satisfactory, independent evaluation. Make sure the Vendor has a solid return/refund policy before purchase. An independent, professional opinion will verify that you are getting value for the money you pay. Beyond that, it's your eye. What appeals to you. Calls to you. Speaks to you. That's the ultimate test.
