This is a diamond that I am very interested in for an engagement ring. I have been searching for quite some time and have it narrowed down to 2 or 3 stones. I have received some images of this stone and the Sarin report. GIA cert says girdle is Med to Slightly Thick. However, this Sarin says Extremely Thin. Should I be worried about this? What do you think about the images?

Your help is appreciated.

Here is a pic. I have no idea what to learn from this or what to look for in this type of image.

Here is the ideal scope. What do you think?

GIA and teh Sarin report use differnt standards for what "thin" and "thick" means in milimeters... GIA "medium" reads "very safe" to me.

And the stone is a STUNNER!

DIFFERENT STONE

Finally, here is an image of a DIFFERNT stone I am considering. This is a 1.2ct. I don't know how to compare this to the above images. What do you think? This is the only image I have received for this stone as of yet.

This is serious "apples to oranges" dilemma... What could one say from the black and white picture? I can't even see where the table ends! The second stone looks square enough and should have a pleasant appearance, but this is so sketchy by comparison with the 'novel' above !

Yeah... that's what I thought Valeria, but I just figured I'd post that one as well. I'll have to get and ideal scope for the second stone in order to be able to compare.

FYI: Both stones are an excellent cut. The second stone's table is 67%.

Any more opinions on the ideal scope? I don't have much experience interpreting these images.

Here's a link for you to a thread about girdle info:

The IS you posted looks great!! Specs indicate it should be a good performer. Somebody did their homework!

Why use a big word when a diminutive word would be succinct!

Ryan, you might have more success sending Rhino a PM directly.

Thanks for referring him to pm Al.  Boody ( funny name) I just replied to your pm but will comment here as well.

Crown heights of 9.x% generally throw up a red flag (I prefer them steeper) but the steeper crown angles of this stone compensate and will help, instead of hurt the optics especially when combined with the pavilion that this particular stone has.  Overall I don't see any major red flags.

I generally don't like to comment on others idealscope images because they are not what I am accustomed to using and find them friendlier to leakage.  What may appear as many dark reds in one vendors idealscope images can appear to be many pale reds in our LightScope and the 2 scopes are not the same.  This is why I always back up our LightScope analysis with BrillianceScope results to *confirm*, beyond a shadow of doubt the actual light performance of the diamond we are testing.

There is not enough info on the 2nd stone to give any opinions.

Hope that helps.
