I am considering getting a .40 -.50 diamond pendant now (PS is SO bad for my wallet....now I want EVERYTHING!) but I've seen basket setting pendants "flip over" at the base of the neck...how does one solve this? I know they have settings with a bale (bail?) but would rather have the diamond "float" on my neck.

Any advice is appreciated!

By simple high-school physics, the lower set the better, the shorter the chain the better, the heavier the pendant (metal plus stone) the better and two bails set above the diameter of the pendant are the solution (like Mara's pendant). Have it with one support point only (one bail), and all other strategies fail - the pendant would spin, no matter how heavy it is!

D'oh! I just found Mara's thread. I should have done a more thorough search for the threads...

My Regent pendant done by GOG flips very rarely...I'm really pleased with it. Garry also noted in a previous thread that it has to do with the placement of the 2 small ears that hold the basket, too high or too low is prone to flipping. When I was having GOG work on the pendant, I really stressed I wanted the pendant to NOT flip and I am happy with the result.

Sorry, Mara, one more question...did you buy the Regent from GOG as well?

No I didn't get the Regent from GOG, but I had the local jeweler set it and it was horrible...in a big bulky 8 prong setting which didn't flatter the Regent's shape AT ALL and had a closed back/culet which blocked alot of light.

So I sent it to Jonathan and they fixed it right up for me and put it in a very open back 4 prong setting. It's great now.

Thanks Mara, for the info.

I'm trying to look for pictures of your new setting from GOG, do you happen to have one on hand?

You are such a wealth of information, Mara...I bet good money that I'll be able to recognize you when I go to Valley Fair Mall one day. You'll be the one with the super sparkly engagement ring and pendant!

I'll be the one lurking outside the jewelry stores!

Here is the thread on the pendant save by GOG:

The pendant is GAWGEOUS! GOG did a great job! I'm so happy that it worked out for you. Do you think it would also happen with a three prong basket?

TIA!

luckyhonu - did you decide to scrap the pinky ring project or are you still planning to get one AND also a pendant?

Mara,

Does that necklace ride up on either the left side or right side? I have a few pendants set that way and I'm always straightening the entire necklace so it sits front and center.

The odds are good, but the goods are odd.

Mine shifts around like this also. I'm betting the only way to entirely avoid this problem is by having a slide bezel instead of the basket/bezel attached directly to the chain.

Michelle -

I tell you, PS is not good for my wallet! I want earrings, pendant AND the pinky ring! MUAHAHHAHAHA!!!!! I'm so glad that I got my three stone ring from GOG though. It's so pretty but I'm having the worst time trying to take a picture of it. (Anyone know how to work a Canon Powershot S100?)

I think it would be easier to get earrings and a pendant becuase it's hard to measure my pinky - I think I would have to go to a B&M store to do that.

Not really Val.  The colors are sharp though!

My pendant does not ride up or slide around. It actually stays put! I wear it when I work out even and sometimes it works its way to the back of my neck, but only after about an hour of kicking, punching, situps and absolute torture.

Valerie,

Oooh I like that! I would like even better if the stone was a diamond.

Tell me about it! I'm practically on the verge of watering down my kids' milks so that I have more funds to spend on diamonds lol

Hope you can get a good shot of your three stone ring. I'd love to see it.

I have to dig out the instructions for my digital camera. I don't know how to take closeups very well, they all seem to come out blurry.

Now I'm thinking that I want to change the three stone diamond ring from my fourth finger to my middle finger.....

hi honu,

for your canon digicam, make sure you use macro mode for closeups. ie. push the flower button.
hope that helps!

i have a Canon Elph digital too.  It's the 200, but not all that different, except digital zoom is higher.  As useless as cropping and enlarging in my book.  What I used was a manual magnification.  I bought the I-Scope (I bought it here on Price Scope) and took out the pink part in the center, used the magnified cup over my lense and took sharper, closer pics of my jewelry.  I swear it totally works!

I bet when they made it, they didn't imagine people would use it to photograph with better resolution in higher detail!  Hee hee.  Try it.  If you flip it open side out, put it flush against your zoomed (fully retracted) lense.  Works damned well, as the lense and cup are almost the same size!!!  Good luck!!!
