Do more women today prefer to have a single wedding ring that acts as both engagement ring and wedding or, do more women prefer to have separate bands to go with the engagement ring?

Some keep wear them for longer than others... but this seems to be the strongest argument for option #2 in your poll, as far as I know. I like the fact that I'll be able to wear a simple band (even with .30ct of diamonds, it's still way simpler than my engagement ring) when I want to. To me, the one ring looks like you're perpetually engaged. However, a friend just got engaged with a band that has 8 small diamonds in it- it looks and sounds more like a traditional wedding band, and she doesn't see the need for 2 rings, and I probably would only use that one ring too if my e-ring looked like hers. ------------------------------ Changed my name from mmeowcollins to Logan Sapphire.

I don't consider myself very traditional or very sentimental, but even after 18 years of marriage, I still like 2 rings. In recent months I've been trying on all kinds of settings since I plan to have something new made for my upgraded diamond. I tried on many 1-ring styles, but they all looked like more of a right-hand ring or it looked like just an engagement ring. Maybe it's what the separate band represents that draws me that way, I'm not sure. But even if it's a thin wedding band with a more substantial engagement ring, it looks more complete that way to me. My wedding band is an princess cut channel set eternity band, and my e-ring is a simple RB solitaire. Sometimes I like to wear my wedding band alone, but most of the time I like to wear both rings together. I like having that flexibility. There are just times when I'm doing something active where I don't want to wear my e-ring. I also think that with a single ring, you look like you're still just engaged.

I am actually (eventually) going to have 3...I am going to get a plain thin platinum band as a wedding band and then (maybe by the wedding :-) a thin eternity style band (not channel set)...the plan is to put the plain band between the e-ring and e-ring so that my e-ring setting does not wear from the stones in the band...that way I can wear the wedding band pretty much all of the time and the etern-band as well...and the e-ring most of the time... diane

I was going to switch to a single ring but now that I got my new ideal cut diamond and setting, I am happy with the look. I too also like the fact that I can wear my diamond band by itself for a different look. PMR

Then, I had my anniversary rings and solitare made into one ring in '98, thinking that I wanted to wear just ONE ring. It is 8mms wide and I wore it alone for the first few years. Then I bought a 2mm gold band at Sam's for $20 to wear with my sapphire or emerald ring on my left hand. I ended up putting that with my wide wedding ring sometimes and now I usually wear both. I feel kind of "naked" without it. I'm also wearing my sapphire and diamond anniversary ring on my left hand some with a 2mm white gold band when I don't want to wear that ring on my right hand.

When I upgraded last year I went back to 2 rings -- the anniversary band with a solitare e-ring. My previous e-ring was wider and more substantial than some ring styles, so I don't think it looked like just an engagement ring. I know many women who only wear one ring, and think it looks fine -- not like they are just engaged. I think that depends on the style of ring. I like both looks, but I like the option to wear just the band sometimes. I also think lots of today's e-rings don't naturally fit with a second ring, and look nicer as a single ring, so it depends on the ring.

At first I worried it would look like a perpetual engagement ring but then I decided to just go with what would make me happy. I figured since I went for the thin white band(white gold tiffany setting) to showcase my new giant diamond then why stick a band next to it making it look like a thicker band? I gave up the idea of a wedding band next to it and I think that more and more women are going for just the one ring nowadays anyway. Especially since we tend to be spending much more money on the one ring than in the past.

Before I purchased the upgrade, I either wore the original e-ring by itself on my left or right middle finger (ring size is too big for my ring finger). Now with the upgrade, I either wear that only or take it off and wear my wedding band only. My fingers are too skinny/ short-ish for 2 rings at once! And where I come from, my upgrade is on the 'big' side for some1 my age and background, my peers all have max 0.5ct erings.

That was my boyfriend's favorite and I liked it a lot too. Then I got all emotional and ...changed my mind. I went with a Vatche x-prong solitaire. It's still nice and simple, but substantial looking. Boyfriend loves the new look and so do I. So, now I will be traditional after all and get a wedding band when we get married.
