Does anyone know where to find Trap Cut Side diamonds. My center stone is a Princess, excellent cut, 3.01 CT, I, 8.15 x 7.84 x 5.61 I went to a JB Star show this weekend, and saw some great rings. He brought 8 million dollars worth of inventory to Dallas! Thanks for your help...

This should not be a problem: you can order a pair from almost any seller. These type of diamonds (usable as side-stones only) are usually not listed to the public, but not a rarity either. There is one good reason for this: the sides have to match the center and the style of the setting. There are quite a few technical considerations involved most of concern to the ring maker. This is why the side stones are usually provided by the jeweler. It is best to have to choose among a few pairs of sides, all a technical match with the center stone. Also, the cut of these sides is not really standardized, so very different beasts go by the same name. Still want them? The easiest way is to drop an order with the right specs to some sellers... I would say. You may need to mention: color, clarity (preferably the same color as the center with some leeway for clarity), the dimensions of the center stone, and your choice of how big the sides should be (some dimension in millimeters, not carats). As a general rule, the side of the 'sides' which touches the center has to be at most a bit smaller than the side of the center diamond to allow room for the prongs... if you want them as large as possible. Otherwise, a talk with the jeweler making the setting should be the best guide. Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |
