I'm considering the purchase of a 3 stone ring similiar to the one in the attached file. I'm planning on a .75 ct center stone.

My question is what size should the side stones be so the ring looks proportional. (what are the approx. stone sizes shown in the attached photo)

Also, does anyone have an opinion regarding the length/width ratio of the center stone.

thanks in advance

Dirk, is this for an e-ring?  If so, do you know what her take is on the marquis and trilliant look?  Some people like ertain looks.  IMO, I would say to go with round sidestones to soften the feel of the marquis's sharpness (it's a lovely stone), but that's just me...

Here's a shot with pears for sides.  I would stick to .5 being the largest sidestones' total weight on a .75 center stone.  Optimal to me would be .4 to .45 total weight of sidestones.

About proportions....

The marquise in the picture is about 1:2 (LxW). At 0.75 cts, such a stone would be approx. 9mm x 5mm (or some variation close to the precise 1:2) keeping the depth at a reasonable ~60%. Further data on what the industry considers great marquise cut proportions can be found Right Here... for reference.

This brings the trilliants at about 4.5mm (the size of one side), which indeed brings their weight to 0.5 ctw, given that extra shallow cuts (below 55%, I would say) are not exactly flattering.

About the setting... I truly believe that the combination of marquise with trilliants is awesome, but the make of that ring needs some adjustment: if anything I would prefer not to see that gap between the center stone and the sides, for example. Just a thought, of course.
