Looks like a really good price.  Similar diamond on Blue Nile going for 9346

Can you list the crown and pavilion angles, star and lower half number for this stone? That will determine the cut performance of this stone.

Hi stitch and welcome!

Can you also post the crown and pavilion angles, star and lower girdle facet percentages too please?  This info will be on the grading report.

Not that good. Too large a pavilion angle for that crown angle, if you can get an Idealscope image I might reconsider, if it is based just on numbers I would give it a miss and look for some other stones.

From what I can see the diamond has potential but really an Idealscope image is needed for that angle combo.

Thank you stitch!  An Idealscope would be a big help if you could get one, is the diamond for sale online?

What are you looking for and what is your budget? Maybe we can find something for you?

yap, drop the clarity to VS range, you will not be able to see any difference between a VS and an IF unless you have superhuman vision.

For example this.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1259866.asp

Request an Idealscope from JA as a confirmation just to be safe if you are interested.

Nope, not to normal viewing. If you can't see it, you can't see it, why pay for it?

For the 1.04c, a PA of 40.5-40.6 degrees would be ideal. 40.8 could work if the optical symm is good and the lower half is large enough, which is why we need to see an Idealscope image to be sure.

Update : I just stop by a local jeweler and he offers this stone for 7800

Color : F - 1.01 carats
Clarity : IF
Cut : Excellent
Depth%: 60.9
Table %: 59.9
Symmetry: EX
Cert:GIA
Polish: very good
Girdle:
Fluorescence: SB
Measurements: I don't remember

He shows me the GIA report, which is dated 2003. It has laser inscription which match the number on the diamond. This cert doesn't have the angles information. He says that old certs don't have this information. When I ask about the idealscope, he says he doesn't have one. However, he shows me the stone through some kind of magnification glass that has blue tube. When I look under it, it looks like star shapes that are beautiful. However I have no idea what I am looking at. He says that if I buy from him, he will offer a 90% buy back and 100% buy back for stone upgrade.

Is this reasonable price?

What he shows you is a H&A scope, to view optical symm, not the optical performance of the stone.

This tutorial. http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=education-precision

Ya, older report do not have the angles measurement. Price sounds too good. Best to check out the cut of the stone. Also ask him is this a bought back/trade up stone? Do you have an independent appraiser near you that you can employ to check out the stone? If it is a used stone, a slight chip in the girdle will result in a drop in grade from IF, and a vast difference in price, best use a pro to check it out.

I just talk to him about this. He informs me that the diamond is a bought/trade back. He says that he can send to GIA to have it re-appraise with a new report. If the stone is not the same as the old report or as he claimed, he will pay for the fee. If it is still like the old report condition, I will have to pay for the fee.

Sounds good.

Even if you get an independent appraiser, I think the cost is about the same. But you will have to take a risk in the proportion, as GIA Ex cut allows for some deep cuts that are not as good.

How did it perform when you are viewing it? Have you view it under different condition, out of store lighting?

After reading the site that you provided, I ran back and look under that scope again. I see the heart shapes and the crown. To me they look similar to the perfect conditions. He shows it under uv light. I looked under neon light but couldn't find anything. It has blueish color. He said that the cost to have GIA to reexamine and issue new cert is 150 is this right?

Is this reasonable price?

A GIA report which is pre early 2006 won't have the proportions or a cut grade so a Sarin or Helium scan is needed to get the proportions, an appraiser might be able to do this for you.  Yes for a full GIA report it costs in the region of $150.  It sounds like a h&a viewer he was using to show you the hearts.

As it is a trade in I would either want a new report from GIA or an independant appraisal performed on the diamond to check for damage etc.

appraiser tool.
