I've had my bezel set engagement ring for about 1 and 1/2 years.  Since then, I've been guilty of hitting it on a one or 2 things... but I never saw any dings or scratches.

Here's the deal...  I take my ring for inspection every 6 months, to Jared.  When I get it back, there are little black dots between the bezel and the diamond.  First, a salesperson told me that they were dents in the metal from the tools they use to check the diamond's tightness.  However, her gemoligist told me that they cram a little bit of metal into the setting to tighten the diamond.  Is this accurate??? Or are they pulling my leg just to avoid having to fix their mistakes??  Under the microscope, I think these little dots look a lot like dents in the metal.  I want this fixed, but after bringing it to Jared's attention 2 times, they continue to tell me that it's the only way to tighten a bezel setting.

I find their answer interesting because even google has found nothing to confirm it.  Please help!

Can you post a image here?

Might be dents, workmanship problem or porosity of the alloy (what alloy is used by the way?).

Hmm, sounds suspect.  I don't trust them.

While the ring is white gold, the bezel itself is Platinum.

I personally dont know if you are getting a straight story or not but if they did it I think they need to
fix it!  I would not be happy with the dents.

agreed. They told you that it was from the tools they used, so have them fix it. Its their fault, not yours.

Sorry you had this happen to you. At least you do have confirmation they did it. I would say I brought it to you undamaged you have to make it the same way I left it. I dont care if someone has to use a tool that dents something (not sure about that), if they dented it, they need to fix it.

Good Luck!

For one, I've never heard of bezels needing to be tightened Maybe an expert can explain this?

Also, i have never, ever heard of placing additional metal into a bezel to make it snug. This is all too weird. If there's something wrong with it, they need to do it over. if I were you, I'd take it to a normal jeweler and see what they have to say about it.

Me neither, but a bit of sluething produced some evidence it does indeed happen. (I don't know about the "cramming metal" part, not mentioned)

Regardless, it shouldn't look like that. I have a bezel and have never had anything like that happen to mine while being in for service.

The top left photo, and the top left "dent" clearly looks like a dent to me! Look at the way the light is reflecting. The highlight is on the right, and if that were a convex peice of metal the highlight would be in the left. But the highlight clearly proves that at least that spot is a dent.

Jared, Kays, Belden... dont let them pull you through the ringer. Insist that they fix it. Or, if you are too afraid to let them touch your jewelry anymore (like I was), bite the bullet and take it somewhere else to have it fixed, but dont tell Jared as it will void their warranty.

A sales lady told me once that I was being too picky... but you are not being too picky. Granted noone but you would notice it at first glance, so you dont need to be self concious about it... but it is YOU that needs to love it. And I can attest that once something bothers you, it will never go away.
