I already have my diamond and am looking to reset it. I know Whiteflash does this. Who else? It seems most vendors want you to buy a diamond from them--they won't set an outsider diamond (due to liability?). Frustrating! Any vendors you'd recommend who don't have this stipulation? Thanks for the help!

It might be easier if you tell us who you've asked first, so we don't list those that have said no. I know Leon Mege will for sure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

Are you looking to have a setting made or just looking to order something already made to have your stone set into (I know you said custom but just making sure). Mark Morrell http://www.mwmjewelry.com/ You also might try Brian Gavin Diamonds http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/ But without knowing what you are looking to have made its hard to point you in a direction. |

Ok so Leon, Mark, and BGD will do it. Any other vendors? Leon and Mark only do platinum I believe, and I am probably not interested in platinum. It would be awesome to have a list. Thanks!

Thank you for your kind words. Many of the vendors here will do it for you, including those mentioned above. Many of us will also decline to accept liability for your diamond so you will want to get it insured by someone like Jewelers Mutual who will cover it while in our possession. Talk with the vendor of your choice for details. Wink Wink Jones |

Mark Morrell is an excellent craftsman, I had the opportunity to see one of his gold pieces before it was finished. You can get the nested crown solitaire in 18k: http://www.mwmjewelry.com/Nested_Crown_5.8mmRB_sz5.5/ As well as the sunburst Depending on the shape of the diamond that you have, we may be able to offer more suggestions on vendors and settings. For example, I believe Mark at Engagement Rings Direct does lovely work on cushions, and I think they set stones which are not theirs. I believe James Meyer, famous for the leaf and vine settings, also sets stones. And as Wink said you will need to get it insured, and probably appraised before and after setting. I use Jewelers Mutual and I've had no problems.

Let's put it this way. I think the majority of PS vendors do. I think the easier question would be which vendors don't do this. And I think Dimend Scaasi is the only one that won't (although they apparently do with colored stones, like Freke's ring) and I haven't checked their policies recently, they could have changed that. The above applies to Diamonds though. Many vendors will not set colored stones, or if they do they have restrictions... like they will only work with stones of a certain hardness or whatever. Two additional things... most vendors will not insure a stone (colored or diamond) purchased elsewhere that they are setting. So if the stone is worth it, insure it, if it's not... just accept the fact that there is a chance that it might chip or crack.

Almost all will-but they have a few restrictions sometimes so it's best to call.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I think I am going to go with Quest Jewelers in VA. The reason being they were the only ones who really got back to me and replied quickly. Definitely something to be said for that. ![]() However, it was hard to decide as so many vendors do SUCH beautiful work! I think I have to go with who is most responsive. That doesn't mean there won't be other projects down the line though. ![]()
