I need to re-set my engagement ring and I can't seem to decide what to do... I have a 2.5 rb stone (great cut, beautiful stone) that I've been wearing for several years with an eternity band (all rb stones, each around .15 if I recall correctly, totals about 2 carats).  My solitaire needs to be re-set (stone keeps coming loose etc).

I have two rb stones of approximately .75 each with similar color/cut that my jeweler thought could look nice with my center stone as a 3-stone.  I guess if I did that, I'd wear the eternity band on my right hand.

Should I do that, or just stick with the 2.5 center and eternity?  (For what it's worth, my ring size is 6.5).  My husband doesn't have an opinion, so I need some ideas from the bling-enthusiasts here!

Are you looking to make a set with your wedding band? You could go the custom 3-stone route, or just pick out a new set. I know there are some great 3-stones from Vatche (I'm partial to the Swan style myself). There are sooooooo many choices it's tough!

Probably not looking to make a set - I don't think I'd like a 3-stone with my current eternity band.  I'd rather wear the band on its own (or with another band)

What I'm trying to decide is whether to go for a 3-stone ring (2.5 center, .75 each side, simple setting) or just keep the 2.5 as a solitaire (4-prong, also simple setting) with the eternity band.  I guess I wondering which is more bling?

I think the 3 stone with those size stones would be AWESOME! Do you already have a RHR?

mmte9,
We have the same ring size.  I think it is a great idea to have your center stone reset in a 3-stone ring and wear your eternity band on your right hand.  This arrangement will be exactly what I'll do.  One question though is whether or not you want to stick with round sides.  Although RB sparkles the most among all diamond shapes, I prefer non-round shape sides.  If you like, I can dig up some example photos from my previous search in this forum.  In addition to 3-stone design, there are two other ring designs that I love - one is a solitaire with diamond split shank, and the other is a RB with square halo.  Will post photos if you like.  Wonder if I am allowed to post other members' rings.  The problem is I forgot to whom these rings belong, so can't aks permission or give proper credit to the owners.

These are all stones I have - the .75 stones are currently set into earrings.  (If I do this, I'll be searching for earrings again in a year or two...)

I don't have a photo - my local jeweler has all the stones.  The ring has to be re-set (it's loose), and I'm supposed to call to tell him what I want done.  Thus, the request for quick help!!  :)

In the meantime, imagine how your 3 RB stone arrangement would look like.  The one in this photo has 1.22 cw center and 0.25 cw side stones (0.50 cttw).  Hope the owner does not mind about my posting her ring here.

1.76 cw center and 0.30 cw side (0.60 cttw).

Another option with trillion sides.  Unfortunately, I do not know who the owner is.  Hope she does not mind.  2.86 cw center and 0.4 cw sides (0.8 cttw total).

Another love of my life (may get this one next).  With this design, you can keep you earrings.

Another one of my dream rings.  Again, you can keep your earring stones.

Thanks for the gorgeous pics!

Any nay-sayers?  Anyone think I'll mourn the loss of my solitaire/eternity set?   I'm about to call my jeweler.

Again, thanks for the advice!

Have you tried on any 3-stone rings of similar size to what you'd be getting? Personally, I'd leave your earrings be and maybe reset your beautiful center stone into a setting with classic baguette side stones (I'm in love with French cut baguettes -- maybe somebody's got a picture they can post -- it would retain the solitaire feeling, would still look good with your eternity band and be a little different from the setting that you're replacing.
