AHHHH, MARA! Yes, I've been eyeing this necklace, too. The price is astronomical, especially for me since we're flat broke (lol), but still I've been spending far too much time on that web site gazing at this and one other necklace I love.

If she had a better return policy, I'd probably spring for this necklace (posted below), but the thing is most of her stones are around I color and if this piece ends up being too yellow, the last thing I want to be stuck with is a Fay Cullen credit for another I colored diamond jewelry piece.

Oh well. . .time to start replicating

Michelle

This one's amazing, too! It's also in the $4000 range.

Looking again at her site is too much for me!!! I found at least 10 necklaces I could happily wear. . .

Ooh that's pretty too Michelle.

Actually, I also found about 5 necklaces and 10 earrings I could very happily own and wear from her site....sick and wrong isn't it?

Oooooooh, I was looking for a place to post this...check the description:

"An exquisite antique estate pendant crafted of platinum and set with a natural, mined, round cut diamond measuring 4.6mm in diameter, approximately .40 carats in weight. Surrounding the center set diamond are 4 round cut diamonds measuring 2mm in diameter each, approximately .10 carats in total weight. The diamonds average VS-1 in clarity and H-I in color. The pendant was created by H & E.O. of Belais New York, who were in business from 1922-1931. The pendant was owned by Ethel Wason (born Ethel Seaver), owner of Mello Cup Coffee Company, in business from 1890-1930. Both setting and stones are in excellent condition. The pendant measures 19mm X 16mm and weighs 2.9 grams including the 14K white gold 16" chain."

Does that mean the center stone is what they called an old mined cut? It is so pretty but all their auctions have a reserve. I can only imagine what they want for it.

Actually, that should be a bargain: the piece is not complete (there is an empty jump ring at the tip) and, despite the long pedigree, former ownership does not really mean much. Also, OMCs are much cheaper than modern cuts are.

Valeria, do you mean the little circle on the bottom? I was wondering what was up with that. Here I was thinking the OMC was valuable. I still like the look of it but if it's not complete....

Thanks for the info. This is why I love these forums.

You can always modify the piece to remove the ring or add a new stone in there?

You can watch the auction and if it doesn't sell, maybe email the seller saying you would be willing to pay $X for it and see what they say!

Thanks mara. I emailed asking what the reserve price is. Don't know if that was appropriate or not, but on their auction page is states to inquire if we had questions on the reserve price so I tried. Also asked about a buy it now price. Still waiting to hear back. What do you guys think would be worth paying for that? I wonder if I could actually swing it....hmmmmm...

I bet that little jump ring had a honker of a single pear shaped stone attached, that someone cannibalized in the not too distant past.

It's too bad, it's certainly a lovely piece.

For $4k you can have the first pendant I posted and it has 2.27ctw of stones. You should show him that link.  Good luck getting $2k for that thing on eBay buddy!!

K-mom,

Wow, that seems pricey. After you posted this, I found the auction and was thinking of bidding on that piece, but two grand. . .no way! I'm kind of in the frame of mind that if it's over $500, I want the diamond's color/clarity to be certified.

Hm... I was thinking 1.5k. OMCs are cheaper than modern cuts but the pieces, complete or not, are more expensive and the attempt to reproduce them with cheaper manufacturing techniques usually provides a good demonstration why that is so.
Oh well... take a look at other Oldcities auctions, it's an interesting operation: huge, clean and respectable, but not exactly cheap. They have not cited their reserve: I bet it is lower than their "direct sale" quote.
