Please everybody i need help! me and my girlfreind have been going out for some years now and are living with eachother and she doesnt think im planning on proposing for quite some time but actually i plan on proposing in mid february, we plan to get a hotel back in the city we grew up in and where we met and i first asked her out, but i have no ideas on how to propose to her, normally i am mr. romantic and could think of a million romantic ideas for anything, but my head is empty im blank when i think of how to ask! i thought about going back to the exact place i first asked her but its not too romantic seeing as it was in the backstage parking lot of a venue after my old band got done playing. (what i did was cute to ask her out but the place is all wrong for proposing) PLEASE I NEED ANY IDEAS FOR THIS! if anyone has any thoughts on what i could do that would be great, although i dont have to much money left right now as i spent Alot on this ring! thanks for any help people!!!

Basic always works best for me, and it also seems the least contrived.

At some point that weekend or night when the two of you are alone, simply tell her how much she means to you and how much you love her, get down on one knee, and ask her, "will you marry me?"

Then, have some champagne ready and celebrate your future life together.

IMHO, it doesn't have to be elaborate or creative to be heartfelt and romantic. It just needs to be sincere. I personally have to prevent myself from gagging every time I hear an elaborate, over-the-top (i.e. 100,000 rose petals - horse drawn carriage -- skywriting -- jumbotron -- foot washing accompanied by bible reading -- you name it) proposal story. But that's just me. Some girls like stuff like this to be velveeta laden, and that's okay too.

Plus, this is cheap -- $20-100 for the champagne, or cheaper if you opt for beer.

If she likes the cheese, write her a poem, too, and get if framed. Romantic (w/cheese) and inexpensive.

Good luck whatever you do! I'd imagine she'll say yes and "it's about time" since y'all are living together. I know I'm going to when my boyfriend proposes -- we've been living together for 2 yrs and he just bought the ring....

I don't think a proposal has to be elaborate either. My husband knows that I'm a pretty private person. He knew that I would be mortified if he proposed to me in a restaurant or some other public place. For me, a proposal is such a private moment between us that I wouldn't want to be on display in public as it happens. For other people, they would love to be proposed in a public place. My husband proposed to me in our home, over an elaborate breakfast that he made for me. That was so romantic. I had just woke up, I was still in my pajamas, my hair was a mess, I hadn't even washed my face yet! No matter how you do it, it will be such a special memory for your girlfried.

I do have one tip though. My husband made sure to have a camera handy when he popped the question. At the time, I thought it was silly that he was taking pictures. I mean, I was totally sobbing with joy and he was taking pictures of me! Now, I am SO HAPPY that he remembered to take pictures of that moment.

Try to think of things that your girlfriend likes, or things that are specific to your relationship. No matter how you do it, it will be very special for her. Keep us posted!

ya i was thinking of keeping it simple, i want to show her i went through alot to make it a great night, but i dont wanna go over the top and make it look like too much. its hard now because she would rather stay where we live now and just get a hotel around the area here to spend a night and get away from things, so i have to convice her to go down because she told me awhile ago she wants to go home the next day to her parents house and tell them and what better way to do it than already be in town, and lately she thinks weve been acting different and its cuz im stressing and hoping everything will go smooth, but im trying not to let her know anything about this so i cant just be like i have alot on my mind about things cuz weve always been open and id have to tell her something and i would never lie to her, so i hope she doesnt start thinking this is whats going on and thats why i want to go to our old town so bad. THANK YOU EVERYONE for helping out with some ideas, i just hope this works out smooth, i plan on trying to have a hidden video camera so we can even have it on tape, or go out to a place and have some freinds be hidden and start snapping shots when i get on one knee, thanks for all your input guys!!!

Just my two cents, but a girl only should accept a proposal once and it should be memorable...the hotel idea is wonderful if you can pull it off...but a stickler to details gets the praise. Like: Have fresh flwoers in the room, her favorite if you know them. Then, to be really sweet, you can have flower petals leading to the place where you will propose, bed, bath, etc...lights low, and soft romantic music or "your song". Also, things to incorporate her likes and wishes...If she thinks baths are luxurious, draw her a hot bath, with bubbles and have chilled champagne waiting with candles. You could ties the ring on the neck of a rubber ducky... you could leave little notes to get in the bath, make and entrance, get on your knee and whip out the ring...Or you could order a nice dinner in, and have the box hidden under a dish (covered), tell her it's dessert...most of all, explain to her how much she means to you and why you love her so much. THAT always works!

Don't propose in the bath tub!! Don't propose in the bathroom, for that matter, or anywhere near a sink or drain!!!

She will be nervous, you will be nervous, there will be wet shaky hands, and through a serious of events the ring may inevitably end up in the hotel's plumbing!!!! Aaaugghhh the agony!!

Don't do it!!! The very thought makes me way too nervous.... All that money potentially down the drain! (pun intended).

Plus, if you intend to take pictures, don't you want them to be pictures you can show to your family and future children? I know I couldn't show my family pictures of my naked bathtub proposal!!!! Aaaaugggh!

yes, please....no naked proposals.

You just have to personalize it. Personally, I am not in to cheesey things. Rose petals strewn about and poems would just irritate me. But, some women are totally in to that.
