Hi everyone! My aunt has an old setting that she wants to give me and I was thinking about putting a yellow diamond in the center, but got to thinking maybe I should put a yellow sapphire? Is there any difference visually between the 2 stones? TIA!

The easy answer is "it depends on the quality of the gems being compared" and of course, your personal preferences. I've often felt that a high quality yellow Sapphire or even a nice yellow Chrysoberyl (faceted, not a cabochon star) is an excellent alternative to a yellow diamond as a center stone.

well beside the cost difference, the next best thing to a diamond would be a sapphire for everyday wear. Here is just an example of a beautiful yellow sapphire.. I absolutely love not mine though I wish! and Jeff does fine cutting.. Yummy! ETA: maybe come visit the colored stone forum for some ideas.

For the same amount of money, you are probably going to get a better looking yellow sapphire than a yellow diamond.

If your main priority is an intense color than sapphire could be a good option, but if you want maximum brilliance and fire, than diamond is definitely the way to go.
