Hello all!  For a .53 carat oval diamond, would you set it in a 4 prong or 6 prong setting?

Thank you!

I would probably go 4 prong.

keep in mind that the prong orientation will alter the visual shape from a distance - a 4 prong oval with the prongs at the "corners" will look more rectangular, a six prong (with the prongs at 12/2/4/6 etc.) makes it look the most oval, a 4 prong with the prongs at the ends and sides can make a longer oval look like a marquise - none of these are bad things, but something to consider when choosing your prong orientation. Depends on the ratio of your oval as well how much it will do this... I also saw an oval on here once that had 3 prongs down each long side and it looked almost round from a distance...

I would also go with the 4 prong...

I'd do 4.

Another with a vote for the 4 prong.  I'm concerned the 6 prong might look like too much metal for the stone.

I agree, also 6 prongs isn't my fave look for an oval, I think 4 is more graceful and shows the shape better - or double split prongs is another option which is one of my favourites!

I like 6 prongs, but love the idea of a double split prong setting.

Edited for clarity.

Thank you all!  It's not a long oval but a wider one.  I like 4 prongs to show more of the diamond, but 6 prong would emphasize the oval shape and possibly make the diamond look a bit bigger.  Thank you again!
