I am looking to find the best value diamond I should put in a white gold bezel set pendant for my wife. I would like the largest size I can afford, but still get something that is bright and mostly eye clean. I have about at $1500 budget, so I am looking for some advice. Your help on the matter is greatly appreciated.

I think 0.5ct is a good size for a bezel pendant. My ACA pendant from Whiteflash cost about $1200. This was for a 0.5 J/SI1 round ACA and the basic WG bezel pendant. Any of these would be nice choices if you're interested in going the WF route: http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-2133655.htm http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-1467068.htm http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-1975315.htm

I second going to WF, but also contact Lesley at Brian Gavin Diamonds and see what she can do for you. :-)

The budget is just for the stone or the entire pendant?

For the budget you have, you should be able to find a great stone .50-.59 J SI for around the price. You didn't mention if the $1500 includes the setting or not. (J color stones make great pendants. My pendant is an E and in retrospect, I would have gone down in color to purchase a larger stone. The one I have is from WF and it is spectacular. They're an excellent company to purchase from.)

My preference would be for the whole pendant, but I could go higher for the right stone.

In that case, here's one that's a smidgen bigger and I color instead of J, but a tad over budget... http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5708/

If you are not looking for pedigree H&A stones but just ideal stone cut for pendants, these BN stones might fit the budget and specs. 0.60c J VS2 for $1012 report here as the copy on BN is not clear. 0.56c H VS2 for $1168 This stone will require more caution, it has a much shallower crown and pav angle and with a feather inclusion, depending on feather position might not be good. If interested, even if BN says it is eye-clean and no problem, best to send to independent appraiser as loose stone. 0.57 F SI1 for $1091

Here's a .72 carat I-I1 to maximize the size. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-I1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1230528.asp - Joe in Caifornia |
