I found a great Seller on Etsy with a wealth of hand-made shawls, shrugs, and scarves. There are three that I adore, but don't know which would look best with my dress. Your help is appreciated

Poll:

Question: Which Shawl/Shrug do you think goes best with my gown?

Note: This poll will begin on 6/15/2009 and end on 6/30/2009

And...seeing your dress again, I have to say, hands down...#2. The others are too white and your dress is a definite cream color (at least in the photos). I also love the little lace at the sleeves and also how the stitching is tighter... What do YOU think? :)

Newsboy: Thank you I probably should have posted that... oops!

ETA: I'm a bit conflicted... I *think* she may be able to make the first shrug and shawl in ivory instead of white. I love the simplicity of the shawl, and I'd probably reuse it after the wedding BUT I love the rosette on the shrugs. I also like the tighter knitting on Shrug 2, but like the length of Shrug 1.

So I'm only a weeee bit confused as to which I prefer

Without question, I prefer shrug 1. I like the stitching of the 1st one more as it has a more vintage and elegant feel and the 2nd one reminds me of a home knitted scarf and is a bit fuzzy. The swawl would probably suit your lovely dress as well. I love your style.

You are on a role! I voted for the 1st shrug. I think it is the best balance of simple and elegant.

While those shawls are very pretty, I don't think they compliment your gown well.  Your gown is so light and ethereal (gorgeous by the way!), that I think all of those shawls are too heavy and take away from the light feeling of your dress. They also just don't seem to have the same level of formality.  I would prefer to see your dress with a shawls or wrap in a much lighter fabric, maybe a cashmere or angora?

I agree with NovemberBride that these shawls seem a bit heavy for your dress. Cashmere or angora would work beautifully!

Also, I noticed in a quick search online that Augusta Jones makes matching wraps for her dresses. Have you looked that route?

I prefer 1 because I feel like the rose on it won't be so empowering as the second one. You want the shawl to compliment but not be the center of attention, which I think number 2 would do.

I voted for #2 because the gauge of the knit is finer and less chunky. Also the color seems to match your dress better. And the floral lace around the edges looks like it would match the bodice of your gown.

Beautiful dress by the way!

Ditto--it looks the best with your dress in my imagination.  I like the shawl, too, but I think the shrug would show more of the gorgeous bodice on your dress.

Can I just say again that your new dress looks amazing on you ?

Have you tried to convo with the seller? Etsy sellers are usually really good about custom projects and s/he would likely be willing to create something specifically for your dress.

I really like the shawl, personally, but I guess it would depend on when and how you were wearing it. If it was something for the whole reception/ceremony, it would be too bulky. But, if it was something just to cover up with when you have to be outside, it would be fine. Well, honestly, I would do something like this for an Ohio winter wedding.

Katamari: Ohhhhh Ohio. But really- major LOL to the Northface. You know as well as I do, Ohio winters can be nasty! Hopefully there won't be any lake effect snow in Cleveland. Bah!

FWIW: The shrug/shawl will be for outdoor purposes only. Even if we don't do lots of photos outside (and I'm hoping for just a few by the downtown Christmas lights!) I will be outdoors on a few occasions. So my goal is a bit of warmth without sacrificing style. I guess that's my concern about the shawl- perhaps it won't be warm enough... be it yarn or charmeuse. An angora shawl would probably provide a bit of protection from the elements, but I'm not finding one for a reasonable price anywhere online...

Thanks for the input and suggestions, ladies! I'll let ya know what I go with!

I voted for 2. The flower lace around the edges matches the roses on your gown, and I prefer the finer knitting. :)
