Hey all. I stumbled onto this web site when researching information on a diamond for an engagement ring I'm looking to buy. I've read most of the info about how to grade a diamond but this is my first time going down this road. I wanted to get peoples opinion on a certain diamond I'm looking at and if it is a good deal. I am looking for a diamond that is a round cut that will be a solitare six-prong setting with either white gold or platinum. I wanted to make certain it was a colorless and sparkling diamond as that is what my girl is wanting. Based on what I am looking to spend I found the following (attached is the ideal scope image): http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1240173.asp Carat weight: 0.91 Cut: Hearts & Arrows Ideal Color: G Clarity: SI2 Certificate: GIA Depth: 62.6% Table: 56.0% Polish: Excellent Symmetry: Excellent Girdle: Medium Culet: None Fluorescence: None Measurements: 6.16*6.20*3.87 Crown Angle: 36.0° Crown %: 16.00 pavilion Angle: 40.8° pavilion %: 43.00

Hi Todd, It is a bit deeper than I prefer with steeper angles, bordering on what we call a steep deep. It looks like there is a bit of leakage on the IS image. Its a nice diamond but unless you are set on that one I think you could find one with a better angle combo and a bit less depth ( suggest 60 - 62.4% max). It is best to have hearts images in order to judge overall cut precision of any so called h&a diamond, but to the best of my knowledge this company do not supply them. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1240173.asp This diamond also has grade setting clouds which in SI clarities can impact brilliance on occasion, get the companies gemologist to check the diamond carefully for this. No issue with a G colour, it will look extremely white, I would be more concerned about the proportions of this diamond. ![]() Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. Slightly steep in the pavilion, slightly deep also, resulting in a smaller face up dimension than similar weight stones. Are you set on a H&A stone? If so, best to take a look at the hearts image too for the stone, but JA will not be able to supple that. I would go to a vendor that can supply a hearts image for a H&A stone. Regarding color, take a look at this video on diamond colors in ideal cut stones.http://vimeo.com/3288695 Interesting, first time I saw a JA H&A stone with a GIA report. Cost cutting measure?

Agree with Lorelei and Stone cold. SC, First one I've seen, too. I'm thinking that this is because it is too deep to earn an AGS0, so they sent it to GIA for a triple Ex so that the retail price wasn't affected as much. Thanks for the info. I am not set on an H&A stone but this was one that I was looking at. I'm going to keep looking.

The try this? If interested, ask JA for an Idealscope image of it. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1237753.asp
