Differences in construction between settings

lowphat Cut Rock Total Posts: 109 Last Post: 9/17/2009 Member Since: 4/22/2009	I Finally found the perfect diamond and now I'm looking for the perfect setting. I was wondering if anyone knew specifically what the differences between settings by LM, BGD, whiteflash, ERD were as far as construction goes. I've read some are hand made and some are cast or something like that. Which is which and what advantages/disadvantages are there to each?

Die Struck - strongest but doesn't work for complex designs, expensive for small runs. carved from stock: third strongest, expensive. (handmade) Cold rolled from stock: considered handmade usually used as a base for carving or for shanks second strongest. cnc machined from stock or a die struck blank: as strong as the base technique. ........... I'm trying to pick out the perfect setting and the only thing my gf definitely wanted was for the ring to be "dainty" and have a thin shank. Talking to some custom jewelers, it appears that some are willing to go below 2 mm and others don't feel comfortable going below 2.5 or 3 mm, on a 3 ct diamond. So I was just wondering why such a discrepancy and if there is even a really noticeable difference between a 2mm band and a 3 mm band.
