Hello everyone.

I am brand new here and I thank you in advance for your help and insight.

I found a platinum A Jaffe setting for sale for well under retail and I am considering having a diamond I've had for about 20 years set into the ring.

Attached is an actual (poor quality...seller's photo...) photo of the setting.

It seems pretty similar to this, although the prongs seem straighter?  http://www.krautheim.com/docs/a_jaffe/mes032.jpg

Also, I know many people have qualms about used jewelry, karma or whatever, but I do not, so that is not factoring into my decision process.

What would you consider a good price for this setting?

Does anyone know the actual model of the pictured ring?

Does anyone know what would be the model of the matching wedding band?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!!!

Metal content is probably around $300. Cost of a brand new similar setting around $1500 to $2000. Somewhere in between the two should be reasonable. If the seller is a private individual, probably closer to the metal cost; otherwise if it's a jeweller.

$450 is a great price. pearlman's carries Ajaffe so you might look there for a band, they could probably help you track down which item number it is too.

Thank you for the response on the price.

I love a simple, classic setting, and yet this one is a little modern and a tad more stylish, in my opinion.  And, I really want platinum.

It may seem silly to some of you to agonize over such a simple mount of low cost.  I'm the type of person who wants the best deal possible on good quality and seem to go to unusual legnths to ensure I get it.

This setting jumped out at me when I wasn't really looking for it and despite the bad photo, and I've spent a lot of time looking at other settings thinking I was being impulsive.  But, I still come back to it as my favorite even amid all the ornate choices.  I'm not sure why. :)

The seller came down $50 from the asking price, but won't budge from the $450 and I've been working on her for almost a week. ;)

Should I just bite the bullet?

It's a well made mounting and I think one of the things you will find most enjoyable will be
that with the squared off shank, your diamond will not twist and twirl on the finger.
