I'm kind of freaking out.

a) I ordered a veil from Obridal.com, and it was shipped yesturday. Except that I just realized I put the wrong postal code in. So the address is right, and the postal code wrong. I contacted the seller, but after having searched the internet, it doesn't seem like there is anything to be done. It was shipped USPS, and they don't have that package intercept thing. I'm waiting for the seller to write back (she's looking into it) but it looks really bad.

What to do? It was already close for my wedding, (June 27th) but I'm in Canada so packages get held at border? Order another veil? But then I'll be out 150$ again (and I'll have 2 veils).

b)I ordered my wedding shoes 3 weeks ago. I wore them and stepped in brown dye. Don't ask. All over the heel and the underside of the shoe near the sole there are brown splotches (maybe 8-10 per shoe) completely noticeable. So what to do? Do I buy new one's? Grin and bear it even though they will show in pictures? It's driving me crazy. I've tried to wash it with bleach, acetone, took them to every shoemaker in my city, and everyone says it can't be fixed. They were only $150, but it still annoys me.

I will have completely wasted 300$ in the past 2 days by just being an idiot. Any suggestions on how to resolve these 2 issues?

ick.  Sorry ally!

Hmm ... the veil - no worries.  I'm sure that it will get to you even with the wrong postal code.

With regards to the shoes ... I'm not sure.  If it will bother you to look at - don't even deal with it ... If you can, buy another pair of shoes or if it will work, do your bleach thing ... just don't leave them as they are b/c they will drive you insane on your special day.

How frustrating!!!  Sorry about all that....

Anyway you can cancel the veil order all together and reorder....or buy closer to home?

As for the shoes - if it's going to bug you and make you sad on your day, buy a new pair.  If you truly think it won't matter then wear them.    If you are a shoe girl, then you might want to get nice new ones ;)

Spark: I love IT! You're so zen. You really think the package will get to me even if the postal code doesn't match the address? I don't know, seems kind of random to me. I thought the mail service uses postal code to send the package. I wish the seller had a phone number, it would be reassuring to be able to speak to someone, so I know what is going on. And Veils in Quebec are gross expensive. The one I bought will run me 350$, like 3 times the price. And the veil which I ordered online which is non-refundable (another 150$)

Yeah, it is driving me crazy. But bleach doesn't work. I'm just so down because I've made so many mistakes in the past few days. And my fiance is paying for ALL of these mistakes, so I feel like complete crap. I figure I can still dye them black and wear them. It's just that I bought them because they were cheap. If I buy another pair, that's 300$ on shoes. I could have bought a really nice pair for that price.

SassyB: I don't think I can cancel the order as it has been shipped. And I REALLY want my veil. I know if it gets sent back I won't have a veil for the wedding.

Alleycat,

You aren't an idiot.  Mistakes happen all of the time, especially during times of stress.

If the shoes are really bothering you and it won't bite the pocketbook, order another pair.

Give the veil company a call, talk to them about the situation and ask if they will refund your money for the first veil, once it is either recieved by them (undeliverable) or received by you and returned.  If that is the case, order another veil.  If not, wait a little while and see if the veil arrives, before acting.

Have you tried OxyClean on the shoes? I got pen ink all over a beige couch once and it took it right now. I realize the ink may be more solvent than the dye but it might be worth a shot.

As for the veil. I'd think it would get sent back to the seller eventually since the postal code is wrong. Hopefully they will refund you what you paid or re-send it.

Hey Ally - I've received a tonne of stuff before with the wrong postal code - the post office usually makes the correction and sends it out.

Try calling the post office and see if there is a way to give them the heads up. Is the postal code in your city at least?

Don't get down.  This type of stuff happens ALL the time.  Seriously.

Me = Zen?!  HA!  I've got to tell FI this one.  I have a feeling that I'm gonna get a big

I think that I have the perfect solution for you ... This *might* just serve to make you feel better and get over this hump.   I'm all about options - they make us feel so much less desperate, right?
While the postal system does make use of postal codes to get mail to the right place, as long as the address IS correct then the mail will get there.  It may take longer to get there, by a little, b/c it may have to be processed manually, but it will get there.

If you are worried and would like to cover yourself off just in case it doesn't  get there, I suggest ordering a veil from these guys.  They have a phenomenal return policy and ship quickly upon receipt of payment.  I ordered my veil from them and think that they are fantastic.  They have THE best customer service.  This way ... you have a gorgeous back up veil, for a decent price and if you don't receive the one that has been shipped, you can use this one.  If you receive the one that has been shipped in time, you can return the other way to yourdreamdress and it's all good.

Whaddaya think?

what about dying the shoes a really dark navy/nidnight blue? Then they can be your "something blue"

You've gotten good advice on the shoes, so I won't touch that... other than to ask if the stains are even noticeable from above, or only on the sole? I assume it must be on the top part as well, or you wouldn't be so worried right? Everything will work out. No worries hun

For the veil:
How far away is the incorrect postal code you entered? I would go onto whitepages.com, they have a thing called "Neighbor Search" (It's the bottom right box) Type in the address you accidently put in, and see if it even exists, and how far away it is. White pages will sometimes provide a home phone number and you could call and ask them to hold it. If it's too far away, as least you could let them know it's coming and maybe they would be kind enough to ship it on to you.

Octoberbride2008: You`re giving me hope. Well it was sent international priority (package) And the postal code isn`t in my city. I don`t even know where USPS comes through...would that be Canada Post? And then there's the matter of will it go to the city with my parents postal code, or with the address.

Hudson_Hawk: Hey You! I thought of that, but my fiance thinks with the pink flowers it would be icky. Maybe I could dye them fuschia and wear them. That's a possibility too, although it really wasn't part of my vision. But ARGHHH.

Sparkalicious: Ok, well I`m kind of reassured that the postal code isn't the end all of everything, so there is still a chance this is going to happen and the veil arrives. I'm just antsy about the timing. As for another veil. Oh my gosh. The freaking horror of having to tell my fiance.

I'm going a little stir crazy because obridal.com doesn't have a phone number, so I don't know what they are doing. I have to wait for an email. I am obsessively refreshing my email. Not a productive day.

Claritek: I`ll see if I can find oxyclean today.

House Cat: I`m going to blame it on the stress. Have to, or I`m going to cry.

Meresal: I ordered the veil fast and entered half the postal code which I have been using my whole life and the other half is my new house. I really think this is going to be ok. I'm going to buy the shoes. I think I just have to forgive myself. Mistakes do happen. I`m going to call my neighbor if I can figure out where it was sent. Thanks!!

ugh.  I hate that.  It's like your email knows you are waiting so  nothing comes in.

Good stuff - glad you are feeling better about the veil delivery.  Occansey has rave reviews so I'm sure that they will contact you promptly and it will be all good.

if it makes you feel any better, we got married on the east coast, and stupid me put a 'filler' zip code for people we still needed, just to see if envelopes would format right.  Well turns out i left the 'filler' zip code on one of the envelopes ( it was 90210 - hahahaha) and it made it's way to central illinois without any issues.  I think you'll be fine.  If they can take 90210 and get it to the right place, you should be able to get your veil.

best wishes!

Ok. I just ordered the shoes. Same ones. HUGGE weight off ONE shoulder. This happened a few days ago, so I`ve been trying to get over the stains, but it really bothered me. On the checkout, zappos said there was only 1 in my size left (which was what it said when I ordered the other pair too. I wonder if that's true). At least those shoes will look really nice in black and I could wear them when I wear more dressy up skirts. They will be dyed black once the new ones arrive.

Thanks gals! I'm glad I got that headache out of the way! I feel bad, but it was really making me crazy.

I'll let you know when occansey designs writes back. i know they have great reviews, so I know they are probably working on it.

Incidently, I tried to call USPS myself, and they`re phone menu is hideous. Really. I couldn't find any option that suited the situation. And there was no *press for a telephonist* option. Blah.

ETA: I guess I shouldn`t think about the BCBG rehersal dress which I have been dreaming about and lusting over which is $300. I thought it was too *expensive* and I just blew $300 by being WAY careless.

Ally, you should be able to get your veil. My parents sent me stuff and put the wrong zip code in it. The zip they put was for a town 300 miles away from Chicago. It still got to me, it just might be late.

Ally-the PO will figure out the postal code thing and correct it. DON'T FRET. It'll get to you I'm sure.

As for the shoes-why not just have a new sole put on? Should cost $30 or less and be easy peasy for a good cobbler. I have it done on my shoes all the time if the sole is starting to wear thin. You could even have them do a rubber one so you don't slip and slide on your wedding day!

Aww, honey, I'm almost 99.9% sure the veil will get to you. Canada post usually checks the address AND the postal code, and it doesnt match up it'll investigate.

New shoes sounds great! It might be another 150$, but not worth all that stress. * big hugs*

I don't know if the USPS is the same, but I worked for UPS in college and my entire job was to reconcile packages with addresses that dont match the zip code. As long as the rest of the address is correct everything will be just fine. It might get held up an extra day but it should still get there just fine. Usually the ones that got returned to sender had a street number that didnt make sense with the street name.

As for the shoes, I'm glad you bought new ones. $150 is a small price to pay for your mental health

Was the brown dye hair color?

If so, go to your local beauty supply store (do you have Sally's???) and get color remover.  It's different than bleach and acetone.  Using a clean white cloth use the remove on the spots...it might work.

The veil might take a couple days longer to get to you, but you'll get it.  I think the postal system has a way of checking the zip codes some how.  I don't know if once it gets to the zip code on the package and the post office for that area realizes it doesn't match up, one of the workers looks it up or how it works.  All I know is I've had items shipped to me with the wrong zip code, and there's a mark on there with a corrected zip code.

Not sure what to tell you about the shoes though.  Are the shoes white?

Ok, First of all Miss Ally--BREATHE.  Sometimes there are damage control days, sometimes it's damage control DAYS!

I agree that the veil is going to get there.  Postal and Zip codes aren't the whole address, and I am confident you will get it with time to spare--it's still four weeks!

As far as the shoes, I think you made a great choice:  You will wear them and love them in black (and there will always be a story.)

SO THRILLED that your wedding is almost here....It's been a trip, huh?!  I'm so happy for you.

Hey, Ally! I know both things are resolved, but I just wanted to second calling the post office and trying the OxiClean first (while you could still return/exchange the new stuff) just in case. I also have a stain remover that I call "the magic serum" that gets out most anything: one part hydrogen peroxide, on part oxiclean, one part dawn dish detergent. If the shoes are pure white, you could throw in a touch of bleach, too. It is good to know you have your bases covered, but you might as well try if you can.

Ally -- I suspect the USPS's role is to get the package to Canada, and Canadian post takes over from there. As the others have said, chances are they'll figure it out pretty easily. But as a back-up, you might consider calling the CP to find out what their procedures are, or if you can somehow reach the postal distribution center for the zip you provided. Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice gals. I tried the oxyclean (it didn't work unfortunately) other shoes are on the way.

I am tracking my package with the veil 3-4 times a day, and it has cleared Canadian Customs. Keeping my fingers crossed that it arrives in my city. As soon as I see this, then I'll know it'll get there. I should have some news by tomorrow night.

Thanks Porridge. It arrived this morning!! Not a delay, so I guess postal codes are not that important (PS ers really know what they are talking about!!) I tried it on and it looks EXACTLY like what I imagined I would look on my wedding day. So all is good.
