Hi guys,

I'm a Brit starting the long process of investigating an engagement ring purchase, for my NYC girlfriend. My only experience to date in this field is reading this site and 1 visit to Stuart Moore in NYC. I used the HCA tool for this diamond too -  I think this came out <1, from memory.

What do you make of this ring?

After looking at a selection of stones at Stuart Moore, I was not particularly sensitive to inclusions, colour (yes, I spell it funny ;-)) but more so the sparkle/fire/brilliance (I know these have different meanings, but I mean a more general 'impressiveness'). Hence I'd rather spend the money on a great cut, setting and something >1.5ct and comprimise on the other C's. Whilst my girl is adorable in every way, she'd be the first to admit her vision isn't too hot.

Any advise you might like to impart would be greatly appreciated. I would be willing to spend a little more on the stone but not appreciably, since this would likely push the proposal into next year.

Many thanks,
Phillip

Thumbs up from me. I'd buy it if that's the size and color I wanted (I like K and lower as much or more than higher colors so this is a little white for me).

I love that store. But I'm curious, as far as I know Stuart Moore doesn't carry J's. So have you ever seen one? The stone you linked is gorgeous, but in a J you will be able to notice just a tiny bit of color, especially from the side. I know you said you weren't color senstive but what about your girlfriend?

That is a beautiful diamond you have chosen!

Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. When a horse dies, the memory lives on because an enormous part of his owner's heart, soul, very existence dies also...but that can never be laid to rest, it is not meant to be...

Looks good. Just to clarify things abit. ACA is a branded cut by WF and not carried by GOG. You mean a Hearts&Arrows stone, H&A.

I have a 1.51 ct J VS1 and thank goodness I am not color sensitive. And no one (and I know they speak the truth!) has said anything about or has even noticed the faintest hint of color in the profile. We all see the ring face up "WHITE!!!"

When I mention it is a J color and has a hint of color people just keep stairing at the ring at different angles and then say "I guess I see a hint of color and then just shake their heads!", but in reality they don't notice a thing. I believe you must truly be sensitive to color to let it bother you, but in my own mind the color issue does not exist. I couldn't be happier
