So I had my first fitting yesterday with my dress pretty much finished (just needs to be hemmed) and I am so happy with how it fits! When I tried it on I loved it, the skirt is perfect (no one out there seems to be making bridal gowns will full circle skirts) and the pleating on the bodice is such a nice detail.

But when I looked through the pictures my friend took I don't know if I like how I look in it as much. I wanted a dress that really focused on how tiny my waist is...I thought picking a 1950's dress style would do that perfectly, but now that I see it in pictures I don't think it does this as well as other styles. Also the liner of the skirt seems to reflect light differently than the bodice...I've asked the designer how I can fix that, hopefully it won't cost too much more.

So any thoughts you can give about ways to make it more flattering would be helpful. I was thinking I might try a wide ribbon around the waist to define it more....

Maybe my friend just took shots from unflattering angles? She was crouched down on the floor for most of them.....

Anyway, on to the pictures!
This first one is my inspiration board for the dress:

I honestly don't see a darn thing wrong with this dress!!!! I'm going to quickly say that I'm a 40's-60's style girl and I am IN LOVE with your gown. I think its amazing! It seems very Jackie O! I think it looks very flattering on you and I don't see a problem with it. I think its perfect

Thanks for the vote of confidence panda! I am not unhappy with it at all, I love the dress and it fits me perfectly.

The only "issue" is that the top and bottom seem to reflect light differently in photos - which will get fixed by the dress maker.

I was just hoping for some ideas on how to further define my waistline, or make it even more flattering, that's all.

Thank you so much Dreamgirl, it is great to hear from a fellow vintage lover!

From the posts so far it seems like I might be overthinking it/too vain for my own good I know this is an honest bunch (which I love btw) and I really appreciate your feedback.

i think the dress looks gorgeous on you

if you want to draw more attention to the waist you could see if they have a feathery flower brooch (i believe that's what it's called) you could pin to the waist and see how you like that look

you'll look beautiful no matter what you choose to do with it!

Like the others I think this dress is drop dead GORGEOUS on you! Very classy! I think what you are seeing is the fact of the angle your friend took the pictures from, it may shorten your waist a tiny bit and emphasize the voila of the full skirt. This may in turn make it look a little out of proportion to you from looking at it in the mirror head on etc. Hope that helps a little. I also think if you wear a sparkly necklace with it, it will lengthen your torso.

Sure thing! Who is the designer? I'm not even engaged yet but I'd like to have a vintage feel to my wedding. I really like the Pronovias line. They have a lot of vintage style gowns!

Well I had this dress custom made by a local dress maker. I came to him with lots of pictures I found online of 1950's dress patterns. So I guess I designed it . I really knew what I wanted though, I went to 15 or so bridal shops and tried on 50-75 dresses, none of which had a full enough skirt. So I found someone to make it for me

I love pronovias dresses too. Actually I am sending my photographer some of their ads to be inspiration for some of my shots!

Thanks Squirrly! I like your idea of using a broach, my mom has some great ones I will play around with this weekend.

WOW! That makes it quite a special gown then. Good job!

I was really hoping that was the case, thanks for setting my mind at ease sparkles! I'm planning on wearing a medium strand of peals my grandfather gave me, with pearl/diamond drop earrings, do you think that will do enough to draw the eye?

Thanks again for the reassurance

I'm so sorry you didn't find what you were looking for. (I'll have to search through the posts to see if you posted the dress you did end up picking!) I know I was disappointed when I didn't find what I was looking for in stores, and had to work pretty hard to get this dress. Thanks for the compliment though, this whole marriage thing really has made me realize how lucky I am.

Wow, wow, wow, wow, WOW!!!!!

It's gorgeous, and fabulous, and fits you PERFECTLY (of course) and I love it!!!!!

I agree with ilovesparkles, I think your waist looks VERY small, and it's probably just the angle of the photography.

AHHHHHHH this must make it all so real for you!! My first fitting is in 3 weeks and I'm flipping out, hahaha. I can't wait :)

That is such a beautiful Cinderella dress!! It looks gorgeous on you! Love the sweetheart neck and the rouching!

To make your waist look tinier, the contrast needs to be against the fluff of the skirt. So for a greater contrast (i.e. further accentuate the tiny waist), you may need to add more crinoline to the top portion of your skirt. That said, I think it looks fabulous just as is!

The dress looks beautiful on you!!! And I agree, the problem with the pictures is the angle from which she was shooting. I certainly don't think that will happen with pictures taken at a normal angle.

~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~
YOur dress is gorgeous!  and you look stunning in it. To emphasize your waist more add more pouf at the top like someone suggested above and I hate to suggest it, b/c you have a great figure, but a corset is the only way to take you in more. I know there have been other threads about corsetry and other shapewear here on PS, maybe take a look. Even the tiniest wasits from then were pulled in with corsets. But like I said, you do NOT need one and your dress is gorgeous!!!
Your jewelry sounds gorgeous! And yes, absolutely! I think pears would be amazing because they again emphasize a small to large image (think waist to fullness of your skirt) and it repeats a pattern. Oh now I want pictures of those! Are there any?
