The following is extreme and sensitive posters should beware.

The following is a *disturbing* link from the Yale Daily News. A woman decided to make "miscarriage" an art project. She inseminated herself and forced miscarriages for the sake of her art.

I think this is premeditated murder. Regardless of the abortion rights issue, this is disgusting!

Does anyone really consider this a worthy project??

Hey, this is a little old, and I do remember it being really controversial when it happened. I think she has something wrong with her if she thinks that's art, IMO.

This story is old, but I was just as outraged as you were at the time.
Luckily, it appears she never went through with it.

From wiki:

Subsequent testing revealed that no human blood was found in Shvarts' project, indicating that it was not the product of induced miscarriage.[8] Shvarts subsequently submitted a different senior project to her department and graduated from Yale University in May, 2008.

Her description of what she WANTED to do was enough to make me sick though. It made me think that the girl has obvious issues. That is also noted in the wiki article.

Thanks for the link, lucky.

Everything I've found says that SHE insists it happened, while Yale says it didn't.

Even the mere THOUGHT of this is disgusting, though.

What kind of a crazy person even FATHOMS such an atrocity?!

As a thought experiment, I think it's effective: it forces "audiences" to confront and articulate their attitudes about abortion and where they draw the line.

For numerous reasons, from the unfeasibility of the idea on a biological level to Yale's potential legal liability, the "project" never happened, and the idea itself is the "art" on a certain level. I think the worst bit about it is that, despite the fact that it never happened, it has the potential to be used as the new red herring, worse even then the mythological woman who uses "abortion in place of birth control," thus muddying the waters of further debate and contributing to the vilification of women in general. Bah.

If this is true...that's not art....that's premediated murder.
