All, I recently purchased a 1.5c princess cut stone thanks to alot of reading that I did on this site. I bought the loose stone because I felt more comfortable getting it set locally. I have ordered a ring and will get the mounting built. The ring that I ordered is a 5mm platinum. The ring size is 5-1/2. The stone is 6.3mm x 6.3mm. I don't have any pictures but wanted to get some opinions. Is this band too wide? She does not have large or small hands, normal size I would. She also wears alot of James Avery type rings which are pretty thick? Any thoughts / comments are appreciated. Thanks! |

The width of the ring can make a stone look larger or smaller, but it's really a matter of personal taste. If she likes substantial rings, then 5mm is probably not too thick for her. I am also size 5 1/2 and like chunky rings. My princess e-ring is 4mm wide and I don't think 5mm would be an issue for me since I like my rings to feel weighty. But aside from just the question of width, what's most important is that the design works well with a square diamond and that the overall look is balanced.

Fuffi, Thanks for the response. What size is your stone and do you have any pics? Thanks!

lostinla- I have a 3-stone ring, the center stone being 1.52 ct. I have not had much luck previously photographing jewelry but I have a new camera and I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow when we should have some sunlight here in NY. Fuffi, G.G., A.J.P. |

Wow! Well done on the picture Fuffi! We are totally and completely impressed! With the picture as well as the ring by the way, both are beautiful!
