Anyone watch this?
As a NJ native, of course I had to check it out.. and had to laugh (lest I cry) at how those from out of state must be perceiving NJ women.
The NJ stereotyping is nothing new, but this show took it to a new level! (not surprising).

Any thoughts from other Jersey girls?

And those of you who aren't-- I'm curious your thoughts too - what do you think of when you think of NJ?
I've seen shows before on MTV such as "Jersey Shore Unleashed" and "True Life- I'm a Jersey Shore Girl" and while they make for some funny tv they certainly didn't paint us in the best light either!

I have family in Jersey and they're almost more normal than I am. I think the RHONJ is totally perpetuating the NJ stereotype. It's a trashtastic trainwreck and I can't wait for the next episode. I think it's going to be the most outrageous and addictive out of all of them.

That's Mrs. Hudson_Hawk to you... Over and out.

I think it's going to be my favorite so far. Not boring, because it is stereotyped. I liked New York well enough but truthfully, I'm sick of the 'socialite' angle that is RHONY.

Orange County was okay. Atlanta was a train wreck IMO (although I only watched a couple episodes).

HH: I wonder if they'll do a RHOBoston? Who would they cast? Couple blue-blood-mayflower peeps, and what else? Professor types? Soccer moms? hmmmmm....

Bia-Boston.com ran a survey/discussion last week asking that question. I think the RHOBOS would be pretty down-to-earth. I don't think the blue-bloods in town would partake, they'd consider it gauche.

I can see that being the case. Chestnut Hill might be too genteel for cable tv (snub snub)

Miami would be interesting.

I don't know who or what they would "get" from Chicago.  It's actually a pretty nondiscript city as far as women go.  If there are any stereotypes of Chicago woman, I've never heard them...

I can tell I'm not going to like the two sisters at all. And then, the one with the head full of curly hair, bless her heart. She calls her husband, "Juicy." I wanted to gag.

Don't forget 'delicious!' LOL

And I think she's going to be the funniest one. Get ready for lots of juicy and delicious drama.

I'm a Chicago girl, and I've only been to New Jersey once. I hate to say this, buy my perception of New Jersey women is that they're not exactly . . . elegant or graceful. I'm a bit embarrassed for these women watching the show, I can't imagine how red-faced they must be when they see how they look on television. (Or worse--what if they don't find it embarrassing?)

Italia--I'm with you on Chicago, I don't think there are any negative stereotypes to exploit here.

I'm watching it. I bet there will be fireworks at some point.

I read that there was some discussion of having a RHOTexas.
Now that would be doable - let's see, big diamonds, big hair, big cars, ranch vs city, horses vs SUV's
YeeHaw, can't wait.

Well as you can tell from my name I am from NJ!  I haven't seen the show- I will have to check it out.  NJ is such a small state, but so diverse!  The sterotypes of people from North, Central and South Jersey are so different.  I assume that this show focuses on the North Jersey woman- which I have to say some of them they are out there!  Then you have the South Jersey sterotype of hicks.  And then Central Jersey- which has the normal people- and of course I say that because I am from Central Jersey!

Can anyone else believe that the one lady with the two grown sons is supportive of her one boy opening a strip joint?  She says she'd be "proud"...

Just goes to show you money can't buy everything...like a ounce of class, in their case!

I didn't know this had alreadt started! I am strangely interested in these "Real Housewives" shows, but I can't stand the NYC women. The whole socialite thing gets on my nerves soooo bad!

Wasn't the woman named Dina on Bridezillas once? Or maybe Whose Wedding...? I may be totally wrong, but I saw a pic of the Jersey "Housewives" in a magazine and thought she looked familiar.

I'm originally from NJ so of course I'm watching!  These women are complete stereotypes.  Soooo over the top.  And it makes good tv!!!!  I am actually from the same general area where these women are living so it's even more fascinating.  I never really knew anyone like them but probably because times have changed and I was a young girl so maybe I didn't notice it when I lived there.  I'm totally hooked and will be tuning in every week!

Hey Italia, I live in Hawthorne so I am right in that area as well... and I also saw that episode on WE with Dina.
I actually heard a rumor the other day that she is actually separated or divorced from her husband now but they pretend to be together for the show... who knows.

JerseyGrl - you are right, the differences depending where in Jersey you are are huge. I'm from North Jersey so right in the thick of where these stereotypes are stemming from unfortunately... but I can honestly say I don't feel I or any of my friends fit these stereotypes. Though sometimes when I'm getting a pedicure there are some characters around that make me think "ahhh... so this is why we get this rep." haha
