I found this green quartz ring at TJ Maxx today.  The tag said green amethyst, but I prefer to call it quartz.  The stone is a double-sided checkerboard cushion, 10mm. The setting is 14k yellow gold with a bark texture - very organic looking.

The little 1-point diamond chips were too cloudy for my taste (you can see how bad they look in this pic), so I took it to my jewelers to see if he could replace them.

So my jeweler replaced the duds with G,VS diamonds, but made them a little larger, about 2.5 points.  Here's an after shot:

I like it. I really do. The setting is gorgeous. Can we have finger shots?

Last one - on the hand.  I've since discovered these rings are sold on QVC (fume) - oh well.   At least my diamonds look better.

The setting is awesome! I don't care much for checkerboard cuts but this is a very fun ring.

I think it's pretty cool too and it improved by heaps and bounds when you replaced the melee diamond.  It was so cloudy in the original picture I would not have guessed they were diamonds.

Cellatini, I don't think it looks McCheapie at all! It is really lovely, I think it has a David Yurman crossed with Judith Ripka vibe

Very very nice.  Love how you bought it and changed the side stones, so clever.  My TJMaxx didn't have any good jewelry yesterday.

TFS!

Thank you for your lovely comments - I really appreciate them all!  I know the gemstone isn't of the same caliber as what's usually posted - I mean, isn't sand made out of quartz?  I'm wearing a big chunk of sand!!!

I was going to suggest switching the diamonds out. Now it looks even more fabulous. You are making me want to go to a TJ Max!

Love your ring!  Big and bold.  Love how you improved the sidestones.  Great idea.  I have a soft spot for the bark finish...it matches my original wedding set.

I need one of those rings.

Thanks Gypsy, you should go - sometimes I find great deals there.  Of course I cancelled out my bargain by having the stones upgraded (and also the ring needed to be sized), but I think it was worth it.  Did you ever find a chain for your amazing pendant?

It's buried somewhere in the under 1 ct thread, which I can never seem to find.  Here is a shot with the original 0.21 ct diamond.  (At least I thought it was 21 points.  When I had it removed, it weighed out at 18 pt.  Small, it was!)

I've tried on quite a few, but think I need some PSer input. And I keep forgeting to take my camera/phone. It's between a 20 inch Parisian Wheat and a three strand chain. :-)
