My boyfriend is ring shopping and I have decided I want an eternity band as an engagement ring. Shared prong, rb, at least 3 mm wide, no wider than 4 mm (so he has room in the price range :) ). I also want platinum. So, he has asked for specs. What should I tell him? Eternity bands are obviously not the same as shopping for a solitaire. No lower than H? Stay out of the SIs and stick with VS1? Help me direct my BF to get me a lovely e-ring!!!!

litigator chick. I've been reseaching this a bit lately myself b/c an eternity band is next on my wishlist. I actually have been getting quotes b/c I love the basket style eternity band like they sell at Tiffanys. I had Lesley from BGD's give me a quote and they use f/g or H/I VS melee in their rings. I have been debating back and forth which I would want b/c I know that the color won't really be detectable in stones that size. However, from the quote I received their wasn't a huge price difference so I will probably opt for the F/G. I think the cut of the stones is really the key and you just want to make sure he buys a band from a reputable company and/or designer. Tiffany and Memoire make gorgeous bands. Leon Mege does a beautiful custom band I would suggest if you are doing larger stones like .15's.

Thanks Mrs. S. It seems almost "easier" to go with an eternity band, since you aren't focusing on all the stats on a single stone, but at the same time, it seems harder.

yes, we'll who new there were so may different style options with eternity bands. I also love the U-prong and would get on if I were wearing it as a stand alone ring b/c I love seeing the diamond's profile. But, since I'll be wearing mine next to another ring I don't trust the girdles and know the e-ring would probably get scratched. I think you could just give him the link to the bands you like and you'll be fine. You really don't have to worry about the specks if you are using a designer or even the bands from facets. Whiteflash also does nice eternity's and use their aca's so that would be an option too.

Are you going for shared prong? Or a different style? If shared prong, I'd just direct him at Facets or Memoire for some ready to go ones, and Brian Gavin Diamonds etc. for a more custome style. I have yet to see a facets or memoire band that wasn't GORGEOUS!
