Hi Everyone,I have a 1.11 Ideal cut/ Round G -VS2 and have been thinking about trading up & smaller for a better stone for a while but cant decide.... and yes when you put a G next to the D,,,, MAN ~ you can see a Big differences! Bigger rock or perfect stone? Does the clarity really affect the beauty of the diamond, IF Vs VS2? Thank you all for your input~ |

You've named yourself D IF so it seems that's what you want. Do you have any more specific information about the cuts for each of these diamonds?

based only on what you've told us I would go for the bigger stone as it sounds like it would still be an excellent option (as long as the cut is still very good etc). From what I've read on this site the clarity isn't going to make a great deal of difference between those options to the eye, however the colour is the one you really have to be happy with I think. A D would be beautiful, but still I'd go for the larger G myself.

Being a really color sensitive person, I would stick with a D if that is what you want - you can see the difference. However, I can't justify IF - it will be hard pressed for you to see an inclusion without a loupe in a VVS2 to VS1 no matter how hard you try. I can barely find the inclusions on my VS1 with a loupe. I say balance size with a D VS1.

Bigger rock or perfect stone? Does the clarity really affect the beauty of the diamond, IF Vs VS2? Thank you all for your input~ Cut quality is what makes or breaks the beauty of a diamond, as long as a diamond is eyeclean you will not see any difference there between IF or SI clarities. If you want the D IF then thats fine, just make sure the cut is top notch, you could even look for a D IF which is also AGS0 cut grade. ![]() Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. Date: 5/11/2009 12:03:11 AM Are you looking at loose stones in both cases? The setting will tend to decrease the difference, since the metal colour will be picked up equally by both. I'm not saying this to discourage you from getting a D, but to set your expectations of "big" difference perhaps a little lower.Author:D-IF Hi Everyone,I have a 1.11 Ideal cut/ Round G -VS2 and have been thinking about trading up & smaller for a better stone for a while but cant decide.... and yes when you put a G next to the D,,,, MAN ~ you can see a Big differences! Thank you all for your input~ As others have said, clarity is not going to affect the beauty of the diamond to any significant extent; cut will.

i'll take the G VS2.
it is always harder to find a "mind clean" stone than a eye clean stone. |

HI: Saw an H & A, F VVS1 on the weekend--1.08. Stunning in every way. And oh, the NO color! In comparison to other stones wiith "lower" clarities, without looping the stones I couldn't see any difference: but yes, for sure the color was detectable. But it was the cut, as Miss Lorelei points out that first "catches" your eye. cheers--Sharon "People who possess great qualities, do not need to show off". |

I LOVE the look of colorless diamonds. I have an F, and would not trade it for anything!! but, if size is that important to you, in the long run, the color difference really won't be THAT noticeable, esp in the setting, as another PSer pointed out.

Personally, I would go for the bigger one . 'G' diamonds are beautiful too, and you'll get a lot more bang for the buck which I think will be very worth it. But you're dead set on the 'D', then go for it! From what I have learned here, the beauty of a diamond mostly comes from the cut. It must be cut really well in order to get all that beautiful brilliance and fire. I don't think you (or anyone else) will notice the difference between a IF and a VS2 with your naked eye, you'd need a loupe or a professional to spot the tiny inclusion.

Bigger rock! But I echo the sentiment about your user ID. You like D IF, so if that's what makes your heart sing - GO FOR IT! However, make sure these are certed stones (GIA or AGS) because my friend was complaining about her G showed color... she later found out it was an I. I think she had a lab cert, but it was not a reputable one and it ranked the color to be higher than it was. Bliss is Within |

Bigger rock!!!! Asuming the cut quality is equal, you will not notice any difference between the two besides the size!

IF carries more 'bragging rights' than a carat. And 0.70 is a respectable size for all but the chunkiest of fingers. I say go for it!

THANK YOU everyone for their awesome advice ~ originally I was going for the D-If .70 Ideal cut all the way... now I am seriously thinking about the D VS-2 1ct. Ideal cut, it nice to have bigger rocks =) But also it would be such a treasure to have D-IF ( you know how that is fellow diamond lovers)!! I will keep everyone posted once the diamonds are in! Cheers!

If you love the idea of a "flawless" stone go for it. For the money though I'd go 1.5 G/H VS2, what girl doesn't love a big rock?! lol ETA: My bff has a E stone, I have an H we are together all the time and unless you have them side by side on your finger or on a white surface you can't tell the difference. ![]() ETA2: hers is .50 mine is 1.5

I would go for the larger stone. One carat is such a nice size and there is nothing wrong with a VS stone.
