Whoa. My phone rings and I see it's my son. I think "cool he's making the Mother's Day call". He says Happy Mother's Day and we start making small talk. I ask him what he's doing and he says he's reading a book. Now I know my son doesn't read for pleasure all that often so I ask "hmmm, a book for work or a book for fun?" and he says.............

"it's a book on Father's-To-Be"

Pins drop while my brain processes that I just heard what I heard. Then his little voice says quietly "hint-hint", and my brains says yeah that's what he said all right.

Soooo, I'm gonna be a grandma some time in November maybe. They have their first prenatal appt. next week where they'll try to determine the date. He and the GF are happy about it. My son will be 26 and she's 23. Here's hoping that everything goes well

I think I'm still absorbing....what a Mother's Day

Wishes for a safe arrival of a healthy baby!

(I have to say that I would have personally received that news with some reservation, however. Are they even thinking of getting married?)

Congratulations PP!  Great news.

Make sure to suggest they choose a name they can alliterate with any future siblings - I know how much you rate that .

Nope not a requirement.  But it does neatly solidify a father's rights - something not to be taken lightly.  This of course can be done legally by other means but however it happens (IMHO) it needs to be done.

Congratulations PP. There is nothing in the whole wide world like being a grandma. I adore my two grandboys.

What a wonderful gift, especially on Mothers Day. I am sure your son, will be a wonderful father to his baby.

Oh for Pete's sake. Let's not turn this thread into if the parents should or should not get married.

Let's just congratulate PP on being a grandmother shall we???

Along with Diamondseeker and Steel, I agree that it's in the best interest to for the couple to get married!

My sister has a gorgeous 11 month old, and she and the father of her baby are finally getting married next month.  They had a million other things to worry about when they found out they were expecting (new house, moving in together, my sister having moved from Reno to Dallas a year or so earlier), and they wanted to get married on their terms, not simply because of the baby.

I think in this day and age, as long as the father is on the birth certificate, marriage can be secondary if the couple chooses, and besides, with a 40% unwed birth rate, this situation is hardly unusual.

Yes, that's what every little girl dreams of. Getting pregnant and then the father wanting to marry you TO SOLIDIFY A FATHER'S RIGHTS. Not because he actually wants to marry her.

People should get married because they want to. IMHO.

Sorry Linda and PP. No more from me. PP, congratulations again, I think it is wonderful news, and I think the way he told you was awesome. He gets major kudos from me! I'm so jealous of the baby, I never had any grandparents...It always seems like a wonderful experience!

Yayayayaya Purrfectpear!!!

That is wonderful news!! Just look at all of the "Gramma's in waiting".

What a great Mother's Day present. I am so excited for you and I can't wait to hear all the details...good, bad, or just Gramma-ish.

I don't care about your son's marital status. As long as the parents are committed parents, the status is not important. I know a lot of married folks who don't get along and because of their poor relationship, they aren't the best of parents. If I could do it all over again, I would have never gotten married. But I did really want the same last name as my daughter. But it cost me a lot of heartache and money. In fact, I just finally got divorced last year, even though I hadn't seen the loser in 20 or so years and had to file three times to divorce him. Whatever...

Don't let the peanut gallery rain on your parade...You're gonna be a GRAMMA!! And he is reading BOOKS about it...OMG, you must be so beside yourself. I am doing the happy feet dance for you....:::break it down:::::
