Forget spring cleaning, how about spring reading?

KimberlyH Ideal Rock Total Posts: 6,539 Last Post: 11/22/2009 Member Since: 6/15/2006	What's in your book pile? I recently read the first two books in Updike's Rabbit series. Great portrayals of American life in the last several decades. I have the last two books fo the series sitting next to me, waiting to be read. Yesterday I finished Astonishing Splashes of Colour by Clare Morrall. A great portrayal of a woman who struggles to cope with adult life. I need to start The Women by T.C. Boyle next because I only get to have it for a week. It's about the women in Frank Lloyd Wright's life. Really looking forward to it. Life is Short but Wide by J. California Cooper and What is the What by David Eggers are on my list after that.

I just finished an auto-bio on Goldie Hawn "A lotus grows in the mud" and it was pretty good. She gets a little self-helpy in parts, but I'm amazed at how full and varied her life has been. I also just read "Stolen Innocence" about a girl who grew up and escaped from the FLDS under Warren Jeffs. It was very hard to read, but I'm glad I did. I've always been interested in true crime, and it was very much along those lines. I just picked up a Ronald Reagan auto-bio too. I really enjoyed Nancy's auto-bio, so I'm excited to read more about their lives. I'm really into bios right now (obviously) so I'd like to pick up the Michael J. Fox auto-bio too. I've also just gotten "Jane Eyre" which I've never read. I don't know how I managed to pass it over for so many years! Any other great bios to recommend?? * "Life is change. Growth is optional. Oooohhh, Jane Eyre is one of my favorite classics. I love that one. I should re-read it. It's been years. I don't have a spring read list. I should make one. I read a lot of junk food but downloaded a bunch of classics to my Kindle with the intent to ready some better quality material in the coming months. We'll see how I do!

I think I may have said this to you before, but Motley Crew's bio, "The Dirt," really is a great book, as strange as it sounds. It's been a couple of years since I read it and it still stands out in my mind. I recently read a few bios, but I can't remember who they were about. The Women by T.C. Boyle, that I mentioned earlier, but it is meant to be true to the story, was written after consulting many of Wright's biographers, and is supposed to be very good; Boyle is an exellent writer. I'm really looking forward to it. Didn't have a chance to get into it yesterday. Hopefully this afternoon.

I just finished reading Look Me in the Eye by John Elder Robison who is Augusten Burrough's brother. The memoir is about living with Asberger's and it's really interesting. Like it a lot. Now I'm reading The Liar's Club by Mary Karr. I'm not very far it, but I know it's going to be a tear-jerker, since my MIL warned me when she gave it to me. Julie and Julia is coming out this summer, so I might re-read My Life in France by Julia Child after The Liar's Club . It's wonderful.

I take pictures with my phone and really that becomes my book list for the whole year. Then I go on line, to our wonderful library system and order the ones they have. If they dont have a book after a few weeks, I buy it, read it then donate it to the library. I read a ton so it saves money and storage space. I do buy paperbacks I havent read thru the year and save them for the weeks we spend at the beach in the summer. luv2sparkle

I really enjoyed this book, too. I love Augusten Burroughs and found his brother to be as endearing. I thought the musical/guitar parts of the book were very intereesting.

I'm about a third of the way in, and having never read Kerouac before, I'm pleasantly surprised. I don't mind the whole stream-of-consciousness thing, and he certainly had a way with the English language even though his native tongue was French (Canadian). I'm also on my third David Sedaris collection of essays, Me Talk Pretty One Day. He takes some getting used to but I think he's hysterically funny. "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.
