i realize that a plain comfort fit band is not hard to find, but my FI really loves the tiffany lucida 4.5mm comfort-fit and it's out of our price range. i'm not sure what the thickness is on the lucida, and i'm not sure where to find a 4.5mm in white gold either (not platinum). he doesn't love the domed ones, and he doesn't love the super flat ones either. seems the lucida struck the perfect balance. he's picky, like me!

also, totally unrelated, but has anyone seen a thin channel-set baguette eternity band? i'm trying to help a friend look, and i can only find ones where the baguettes are vertically set (she wants them horizontal).

thanks!

That's struck my love for the lucida right on the nose, too! I've been in search of a lookalike, though for a 2mm, and the best I've found is at e-weddingbands.com. They do 14k and 18k gold/WG, I think maybe 10k too. I'll go see if the 4-5mm looks similar the way the 2mm does.

That's so funny, I've had way more trouble finding vertically-set baguette bands!!

There are a lot of vendors that sell them. Lemme dig you up some links.

Okay no, the wider ones really don't have the same shape as the lucida, the way the 2mm does (or seems to). Boo. Hopefully someone else will be able to help with that.

Still compiling links for the baguette band

Oh no, I was just talking about "finding" in reference to threads like this (others looking for vertically-set bands), I meant that horizontally-set bands are more common/easy to find.

I WISH I could get a vertically-set baguette band alas, with my wedding band search long since completed, there are no baguette bands in my future...

ah ok, i must've misread your post, just trying to help but thanks very much musey for looking into those baguette bands.

re: the lucida, i called tiffany and they shared the measurements with me. if this might help anyone identify a similar band, the size 9.5, 4.5mm comfort fit lucida is 1.4mm thick at the outer edge to 2mm thick in the middle.

anyone have any ideas on a copycat? i am going to call greenkarat tomorrow to find out about theirs, but besides that i am at dead ends (other than a custom copy).

Unfortunately, there is no copycat, and you can not order a custom copy. The reasons are complicated and have to do with intellectual property and also the methods for making rings, but long story short, the exact shape of the Lucida 4.5 is only that particular ring. Sorry.

I tried to find a copy of the Lucida bands- it turns out if you want one of them, you have to buy a Lucida. Nothing else is or can be made to be the same thing.

I wish I had better news but that's honestly what I have to say about it.

The gold and platinum versions, though, are the same ring. The platinum is $1450. The gold is $675.

You know what you could do is get a pipe cut band that's the same thickness and have a jeweler shave down the edges to approximate the shape of the lucida.

Imdanny - you may have just accidentally solved the problem. The platinum one is out of our price range, and FI didn't want platinum anyway. However, $675 is *not* out of our price range - but Tiffany told me you can't get it in white gold? Were they wrong?

No, you cannot get a lucida band in white gold. Tiffany carries very little in the way of white gold pieces, but there are a few. Lucida is not one of them.

Does your fiance dislike platinum, or is it a budget issue?

I still think my pipe cut band idea is probably the easiest solution... there are a few PSers that have had this done.

it's both actually - my fiance is uncomfortable with the idea of wearing something that costly (yes, even if it's insured....don't ask me why, he just is). if he really wanted platinum, i'm sure we'd figure out a way to get it into the budget, but he doesn't. plus he really likes the look of unplated white gold. i think we may be out of time to do the pipe cut route - how long would something like that take, any idea?

redrosethanks so much for looking all that up...my FI is a 9.5 and i think unless we could get a used plat band that cost a lot less (like the same price as gold) he'd still be uncomfortable with it, and like i said, he prefers the look of white gold anyway. i think those avery bands are the wrong width, but thanks so much for looking!

greenkarat is apparently closed on the weekend

Probably ~2 weeks... 1 to find/order/receive the band, another to have a jeweler reshape it.

Having owned a 3mm Lucida, and a 3mm from Raphael The Facets Collection, e-weddingbands and Blue Nile, The Raphael Facets was the closest IMO.

No, what they said to you was correct. It is available in 18kt yellow gold and in platinum. I'm getting a gold one myself. I considered this from so many angles for like a year. I just realized I like the finish of gold better and the gold version in the size I want is 56% the cost of the platinum version of the same ring.

4.5mm Lucida, 18kt:

Yes, that's what I had guessed. The Raphael Facets would still be made from a tube of metal, if I am correct, sawed into widths, bored out, and polished. So to me it wouldn't be close enough, but to each his own. I thought I'd use e-weddingbands (and I like them as a company a lot) but when I compared the Lucida bands with theirs, I couldn't. I wish, but I couldn't.

frenchblue, one more thing, I just want to wish you luck, and all happiness for your future. I understand your FI's concerns probably better than most because for us guys a wedding band is the only piece of jewelry many of us will ever wear. Even if it is not the only jewelry we have we will never have anything like the options that are available to you. So best luck to both of you in whatever you decide to do!
