Hello all, I am new to diamond searching and new to this forum. I will be proposing soon and thus the journey for the diamond has begun :) I have done some research through many threads on this forum and must say great info and great people! But I am completely overwhelmed! I figured it best to start out by asking for some help in evaluating a radiant cut I am looking for: 1.72 carats, F, VS2. 7.55 x 6.34 x 4.48. 70.7 depth, 72 table. Price is 14k. Please let me know how this stacks up against other radiant cuts. thanks in advance! |

Radiants can't be judged by numbers, images such as ASET and photos are really essential if buying online. Is this diamond with an online vendor or store jeweller? What type of grading report does it have, GIA? ![]() Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. Is this diamond with an online vendor or store jeweller? What type of grading report does it have, GIA? Lorelei is correct, Radiant cut diamonds can not be judged "by the numbers" and the insight provided by an ASET scope / images are invaluable whether you are purchasing the diamond online or from a brick and mortar jewelry store. In terms of determining whether the price for the diamond is reasonable, I recommend running a search for similar diamonds on the diamond search engine provided on the entry page of Price Scope... __________________________ |

If you like this radiant then that is the main thing, they can vary in shape and appearance very much, so look at as many as you can in person to make sure this is the type of radiant you want. What you could do if you wish is to order an ASET scope here - http://www.ideal-scope.com/cart_zoom_item.asp?Id=23&ShowAdd=Y This will give you a good idea of cut quality. This is a great tutorial which explains how ASET work and how to interpret the images, http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=education-performance ![]() Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. Although you cant judge radiants strictly by numbers, is there a recommended range to stay within? Or is it possible for a diamond that may fall out of that "recommended" range to still be desirable?

Radiants are tricky and they each seem to look a bit different than the next. If you are able, look at several at once as it'll help you determine what you find most attractive. I have a radiant and love it. Good luck in your search, it'll be worth the effort.

Anything specific I should be looking for when viewing in person? What are good parameters to consider?

What are the clarity characteristics of the diamond? Can you obtain a copy of the GIA lab report and post it here for review? __________________________ |

By the way, did you run a comparison search here on Price Scope? Because I did and I noticed that White Flash has a 1.72 carat, F, VS-2 with Very Good polish and symmetry listed for $12K http://www.whiteflash.com/radiant/Radiant-cut-diamond-2103789.htm P.S. I know that we're not allowed to comment on diamonds listed by other vendors on the forum to prevent cross-selling and all that, but JBiggs has indicated that the diamond he is considering was found in a traditional brick and mortar store, so I hope I'm not messing up by pointing out that he can save some $$$ by purchasing a diamond from one of the well known vendors here on PS. I'm obviously not affiliated with White Flash
