Hi, well I have nearly decided on the new diamond for my new engagement ring replacement - I just need some help! I have 2 ovals, both GIA, first stone is 1.3ct, E, VS1, 8.4 x 6.03 x 3.1 for AUD$13510. The second oval is 1.14ct F, VS2, 8.02x5.87x3.79 for AUD$10,500. My jeweller assures that both are wonderfully gorgous stones with no bow-tieing and exceptional. The third consideration is a cushion cut diamond, GIA, 1.54ct, F, SI1, 7.31x6.24x4.25mm for AUD$14,500. My husband loves the cushions, so do I, but I love the spread of an oval. The ring planned is going to be a halo setting. Could someone out there please help me make a decision - and give me the reason for and against..........is the 1.3 oval worth the extra $3K over the 1.14?? Any advice very much appreciated and thankyou.

Hi Bugs, Have you seen them in person or do you have any images of the diamonds? Hi lorelei! I have pics of the 2 ovals - the cushion is still coming from interstate. The diamonds are all on apro from various merchants. I have total confidence in this jeweller - he has selected the 2 ovals from a number he called in to view before selecting the chosen 2 for their beauty, cut and performance............I am unable to get to Sydney to view before he proceeds in handcrafting the ring. He has however, sent me numerous of photoes of the 2 ovals at my request!

HI again Lorelei I liked the second one best too. I was thinking the first one was too narrow.........and couldnt justify the extra $3K......I feel alot better now that I have had a PS expert's opinion!!!!!! however, I viewed some cushions in Sydney last week, and my husband and I love them! Problem is they are proving difficult to source here in Oz over 1ct plus.I want a larger spread as possible as I am replacig a 2ct stone, and obviously have to go larger in the cushion to get the spread, thus alot more money. What are your thoughts???

When I read your post, I immediately thought of this stone from GOG - an oval cushion! Best of both worlds!! ![]() http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5403/ Not sure what your color preferences are, but it faces up really white for a J, it's a beautiful cut...and the price is great! ~ * ~ |

An interesting find, rock_of_love. I think the shape is intriguing and at that price, it's a steal. Btw the 2 ovals, my vote goes to the second. Size-wise, a difference of ~0.4mm is not visually significant. But the 3K actually pays more for the color and clarity upgrade than the small carat weight increase. -Dmitri- |

I like the length/width ratio in the second oval and I dont know how your jeweler defines bow tie but the first stone looks like it has a large one. Even having said that, I still would say it is a lovely stone.

hi there thankyou so much for the stone from GOG - I would LOVE to buy from there as I spent alot of time marvelling at their stones last night and have watched a number of their videos for education! A oval cushion - what a dream find Rock Of Love! I am in Australia though - and know alot of PS have had success in buying from the US, but with GST (10%) and import taxes etc not to mention getting insurance I think it would be a logistically nightmare...(especially after my recent grief of the last jeweller that handmade my chipped princess diamond ER, getting the diamond recut to resell himself to make a profit - he wouldnt send the stone back to us.....after the police were called, a phonecall to the insurance company to make them aware prompted swift action, and they hand-collected the stone as they have ownership of it!!!! I really cannot deal with anymore stress from diamonds!!!) Funny that - I agree I thought I saw a bow-tie in number 1 - the jeweller and his team assure me that neither stone has one.........but what is the picture showing then??? I think I am now 100% convinced on stone number 2 - it was my favourite I think because of the colour/clarity - but I dont see $3K worth! now - the oval or the cushion????? ![]() Thanks guys for the advice, I really need other opinions from PS EXPERTS!!!
