Hi,

I'm a new member to pricescope and I was referred here by a friend. I am starting to learn more about diamonds and am interested in purchasing a pair of diamond studs.

I am hoping for around total carat weight of 0.8-0.9. My budget is around $1000. I am willing to sacrifice color and clarity for a better cut. Originally I saw some potential stones from James Allen which had nice scores on the HCA:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?find=1&cid=130&item=1213374
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?find=1&cid=130&item=1207678
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?find=1&cid=130&item=1213419
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?find=1&cid=130&item=1208025
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?find=1&cid=130&item=1234212
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?find=1&cid=130&item=1234435

I looked at a number of SI2's since I understand that earrings don't necessarily need to be completely eye clean to be beautiful.

When I contacted the vendor, I was told that the quality and visual characteristics may not be satisfactory and that I should consider lowering the carat weight or upping my budget.
Examples suggested to me included:
1228960 + 1228971
1207454 + 1207690
1204001 + 1221219
1228961 + 1221232
1198734 + 1198777

When I ran some of these stones through HCA, the scores were not always that great. I understand HCA is a tool and should not be the only determining factor, so I'm wondering if you might have any thoughts on this. Also, in many of these cases, the color and clarity have gone up, and the carat weight has gone down, and the price is a bit higher.

Unfortunately I'm on a tight schedule (and would like to make a decision tomorrow if possible), so I plan on contacting the vendor tomorrow about my questions but I thought I'd try and get as much feedback from the forum as I can before I approach the vendor again tomorrow.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Hi,

To simplify my post, I think I've narrowed down my original choices to the following:
0.43 G SI2- GIA certified v.good cut/v.good symmetry. $430
Depth 59.8%
Table 58%
crown angle 34
pavilion angle 40.4
strong fluorescence

0.44 F SI2 - GIA certified v. good cut/v.good symmetry. $460
Depth 60.4%
Table 58%
crown angle 34
pavilion angle 40.6
med. blue fluorescence

Any thoughts?
Thanks!!

Looks good, what are the physical dimensions? These are also important for a matching pair.

Need the diameters please for each.  Do you know if these are eyeclean or not?

Hi,

Here are the measurements and the photo image from the vendor:

Stone #1
0.43 carat = 4.86 * 4.9 * 2.93mm

http://www.jamesallen.com/grading_report.asp?pic=1213419&type=2

0.44 carat = 4.93 * 4.97 * 2.99mm

http://www.jamesallen.com/grading_report.asp?pic=1213374&type=2

Thank you very much!

I will just fix the links...

That all looks in order, have you checked these are eyeclean?
