What are some sayings that just grate on you? A few of mine: You deserve it. ____ is as blank does. I'm stressed.

I hate "it's nice". Just bugs me for some reason. Can't think of any more at the moment but I'm sure I'll think of them later.

My boss is always telling me to give him the "Cliff's Notes" version of case histories...he says it ALL the time and it is very irritating. Namaste, I hate "touch base" as well. "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined." Henry David Thoreau |

A phrase that seemed to pop up after the Lacy Peterson murder case, "went missing" - Now it seems every news anchor says that when speaking about a missing person. I know it's a really silly thing and it's a terrible topic to begin with, but I have to say it irks me for some reason every time I hear that phrase used.

Corporate speak drives me up the wall. The most popular sayings people in my department are spouting out at meetings now are: Incorrect sayings that aren't words or mean the exact opposite of what the person intends to say drive me up the wall too -- "anyways" (instead of "anyway"), "irregardless" (instead of "regardless"), "could care less" (instead of "couldn't care less"), etc.

Makes people think twice. ![]() The current one at the top of my ARGH! list is "____ is setting them (students) up to fail." People at my school use it ALL the FREAKIN' TIME--so much so that it was mentioned over a dozen times in just ONE meeting. Makes me want to tear my hair out. I also really don't like, "Well I don't know but..." If you don't know, why are you still talking?!

YESSSSSSS! and here it is.... "off of" As in - "I got off of the ramp" "We need to get that off of the table" "Turn off of the I95" How about we lose the bad grammar and try instead... "I got off the ramp" "We need to get that off the table" "Turn off the I95" Sends me mental. Absolutely mental. whitby (AKA 'cake lady being attacked by a dog') |

"Things happen for a reason" No they don't , you make things happen, it's all about choices. If things happened for a reason, what is the reason for children dying, massive tragedies , and the "doings" of pedophiles and murderers??

I second the "believe you me". What a stupid phrase. And I don't know if this is the cow statement that was referred to above, but "why buy the cow when you get the milk for free?" I mean come on. Really? I've said it before in a completely joking manner, but the people who mean it drive me crazy. On so many levels. Again.... REALLY?
