My new mokume bands arrived yay! The first pair I got were lacking the white gold lining I had requested, but after much hassle, the new ones are here :) I took a pic of them with my e-ring and other diamond wedding band.

I got them from a Montana Jeweler, custom made with palladium and silver :)
It's hard to buy in person since most stores don't sell them, I've only ever seen them in person at jewelery/arts and crafts shows.

There are a ton of great online vendors though.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Thanks! I'm still struggling to decide which band to wear with my e-ring, lol... The diamond one is shinier and "matches" but the mokume one is cool.

Thanks!

I shopped around for wedding band styles and decided on the mokume bands because I loved the history and artistry of it :) It was a 1500$ set, which was 500$ more than the other palladium set I had my eye on. But I figured that for the extra 500, I might as well own something hand made and one-of-a-kind. Hehe..I love rationalizing the spending of more money :-P

Bumping up for a question

How visible is the seam on the mokume, where the ring was soldered together? Does it disrupt the pattern too much?

Would you mind showing a picture of the seam? Thank you!

The seam is much less noticeable on mine than his, but neither of them really bother me too much. Some jewelers are probably better at it than others. I hear Chris Ploof is amazing at making the rings seemless if it's something you're worried about.

I love your Mokume bands!
That seam is barely noticable in a super enlarged macro photo!
I bet it is practically undetectable IRL.

In my opinion, the craftmanship and labor involved in making these one-of-a-kind unique rings makes them definitely worth the higher price tag.

You will be sure to get complements and questions about them often and you can educate everyone who asks about the history and artistry of these fabulous rings.

Beautiful!

Thanks Suzy!
My uncle LOVES them. He collects antique swords, including some gorgeous damask steel katana swords that were forged with mokume-type techniques. I used to have pictures...can't find them now, but they were amazing!! So he's a big fan of my mokume bands :) Wouldn't be surprised if next time I see him he has one himself!

Yes, I am a big fan too.  I've been trying to get my dear husband to get one, but he's just a "plain gold band" kinda guy.  I really liked the three colored metals forged together (white, yellow and copper colors).  Sunset, I think the combo was called, anyway, I think Mokume's are fabulous!

It will be fun for you to explain the craft and history behind your rings to people who normally would never have a chance to see anything like them.  I'm sure you will get many questions through the years and plenty of chances to tell the "story" behind the ring.

Again, those are really beautiful rings!
