I've searched previous forum posts and everyone recommends Marty Haske for diamond appraisal in the Boston area. While I am sure he would be great based on everyone's recommendations, does anyone know of an independent appraiser in the jewelry building downtown? (333 Washington St.) I would like to go with the seller before committing to buy it to just get an unbiased second opinion that the stone is what it should be.

I've seen postings recommending DePrisco and such, but they sell loose diamonds and I'm not sure they will be unbiased. With all of those jewelry stores there, there MUST be a good place to bring it to in the building. Also, has anyone found a store down there with a Sarin machine?

Thanks in advance,
Larry

Hi Isp7 – I too would like to know that, especially who has a SARIN machine. It seems a lot of the jewelers in there are old school.

Who are you considering as a source for your diamond? Anyone in there give you a really good vibe?

I bought the diamond from ADCO Diamonds and dealt primarily with Aline and her father Norman. They were very straightforward, honest, and patient, and I am a hard customer! I really recommend them.

As for the Sarin machine, I talked to 1 jeweler that said they had "access" to a report, but they did not have a machine. They didn't tell me who had the machine they would have used.
