I need some tips on selling a ring. It's a tiffany cut on a platinum band. The ring I'm looking to sell was purchased from Osterman's Jewelers. It comes with Osterman's warrenty, and is good for trade in at the value of $2,500 on any purchase over $3,000... Does anyone have any ideas or know anyone who would like to purchase?

You can do a search on this site to see what similar diamonds are selling for. For example, here is a 0.47 IGI certified G SI1 princess cut diamond selling for $700. http://search.virtcert.com/cgi/u/1041/v.cgi?stock=1711923&_s=1041&_p=98fg98f7g&_c=&_fs=1&prestock= Here's a 0.46 GIA certified H VS1 princess cut diamond selling for $750. http://search.virtcert.com/cgi/u/1041/v.cgi?stock=1711908&_s=1041&_p=98fg98f7g&_c=&_fs=1&prestock= Keep in mind that people who buy a ring secondhand are going to look for a discount beyond what they would pay to put a ring like that together new. You might want to considering selling the diamond loose. Also, you might seriously consider doing the trade in option. It is very unlikely that you will recoup all that you spent by selling the ring yourself. Check out Ebay to see what similar rings are going for. You might try selling it there with a reserve price. Remember, the lower you make your reserve price, the more likely that people will bite, and once they bite, they just might keep bidding the price up. A reserve price that is too high makes people lose interest fast. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2676994042&category=42952 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2677220119&category=42952 Also, you said that it was set in platinum, but the IGI card says yellow gold with white gold prongs. Is this the right card?

That appraisal seems wildly inflated, as usual...if you were to be able to sell this, I'd think you'd be lucky to get even $1k. eBay more like $500 or $750. Good luck...

The ring started out with a gold band and I opted to have the diamond put onto a plat band instead... That's why the IGI shows a gold band. Thanks for the advice, I'll see how it goes and let you all know the results. Thanks again!
