Hi all,

I got engaged a few weeks ago, and since my boyfriend knows what a control-freak I am, he rightly guessed that I'd like to choose my own ER! In my head, I'd always thought I'd like an emerald cut solitaire, but after trying one on, I realised it somehow just didn't suit me!  Unfortunately for me, a few days after getting engaged, I was sent on a business trip to rural Africa for 6 weeks, and as you can imagine, there aren't any jewellery stores out here to visit... Lucky for me, the one thing I do have is internet access and I found PS! So, I've spent hours looking at all your beautiful rings to gain some inspiration! I've realised that I really love vintage inspired halo pave settings, and now, I'd really appreciate some opinions on this setting...

I think it's really pretty, and I'm waiting for some photos with a stone placed in the centre, but I think what I'm not sure about is the double band (IYSWIM).  The other ring on PS which I love is this one:

Obviously, this one doesn't have the double band (sorry, not sure what the correct term to use is), and the halo isn't flush with the band...

So, I'd be really grateful for opinions on the first setting, and also if any of you have any hand pictures of any other halos with or without the double band thing, could you please post them?

Sorry for the long post!

Welcome to PS HermioneM!

That band is very pretty!  I think what you are calling double band may be considered a cathedral setting.  It will set up higher because of this.
Some people like this and some people dont.  Mine is a cathedral setting and I have no problem with it setting up higher.  I couldnt get your
link to that other setting to work.  Can you try reposting it?  Can you tell us what size/shape stone you are looking to get.  There are a lot of
beautiful halos on PS.  Havent seen too many with cathedral settings but hopefully someone will post that has one.

Congrats on your engagement!!!

EDIT - here, I was able to fix the link

Hi tyty,

Thanks for fixing the link! Not a very good start -sorry!  In terms of centre stone, I'm looking about .75 G/H SI/SI2 hearts and arrows from BriantheCutter.

Thanks again!

If you do a search for halos, you should find a couple of "Show me your halo" threads to give you more photos to look for. Something that tends to be shared is that, with setting like this with pave, the craftsmanship is of the utmost importance, but even if you do get your ring from an expert jeweler (like Leon Mege, the 2nd ring you posted), pave is very delicate and can fall out, get knocked out, etc. If your hands are used a lot at work, it's probably more likely a question of when, not if some of your stones will fall out. Just be aware of this because some folks choose not to get rings like this because they are too hard on their jewelery and don't like the idea of the stones coming out.

They are beautiful rings! Can't wait to see what you get.

The double band you're referring to--that isn't the small metal circle that sits under the stone shown in the last photo you posted, is it? If so, that's called a doughnut.
