Honeymoon Hangover! So good... about how much to know about their past, if you can't tolerate each others family, etc.!

Oooh lucky girl! So you're vegging! My favorite thing to do during a weekday day off! It's snowing here too but we didn't get the day!

So, I put Dr. Phil on in the background while I was making dinner. I didn't really pay attention to much but took note that there would be info on his website about important things to discuss before considering marriage, as well as important facts to know about your SO/spouse. I felt like his website was giving me the runaround but I managed to find The Newlywed Quiz: 1. What is your spouse’s shoe size? 2. How many children did your spouse want when you got married? 3. In what city was your spouse born? 4. If your spouse had his or her dream job, what would it be? 5. What was your spouse’s first job? 6. What is your spouse’s mother’s maiden name? 7. Has your spouse ever had a nickname? If so, what was it? 8. What single word would your spouse use to describe you? 9. What is your spouse’s blood type? 10. What is your spouse’s favorite way to wind down after a stressful day? Do you really know your spouse/SO?? ![]() Just going through the questions, I'd say I know 8 or 9 out of 10. I'll have to ask my BF how right I am on some of the answers once he gets home!!

And here's the Partner Awareness Quiz...Answer true or false to the questions. I can identify the happiest time in my partner's life. I know what my partner considers to be his or her greatest losses in life. I can describe what my partner considers to be his or her greatest area of difficulty in interacting with each of his parents. I know what will be probably be playing on the radio when my partner is driving somewhere. I can describe the most traumatic event that occurred in my partner's childhood. My partner has clearly identified for me what he or she wants in life. I can identify the obstacles that my partner believes are preventing his or her getting what he or she wants. I know which of my partner's physical features he or she is least happy about. I can recall the very first impressions I had of my partner. I know what section of the Sunday newspaper my partner is likely to turn to first. I can describe, in some detail, the home environment in which my partner was raised. I know what makes my partner laugh. I know what my partner's parents would probably say is the thing about my partner that they are most proud of. I can describe two or three decisions my partner made before we met that my partner now regrets — and my partner can do the same about me. I know which part of a restaurant menu my partner is likely to look at first. I can quote three things my partner says to me that he or she says to no one else in this world. I am thoroughly familiar with my partner's religious beliefs.

I watched part of it and there was some pretty interesting couple situations and information that I'm going to take into my relationship. To each his own, but that's why I would never want to rush getting married to someone. There's just too much to know before I make that big step. My BF and I have been dating for just over 3 years and I still find out something new about his personality or likes and dislikes constantly. Maybe the divorce rate would be much lower if we took the time to do the work beforehand. I'm sure going to try.

Sammy, thanks for posting the quizzes, it reminds me of something from the book, Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. You should know EVERYTHING about your partner, lol, so that you can create a detailed love map. If your partner is blue, you should know what their favorite things are, so that you can cheer them up. It's the knowing of the nuances that makes the person feel "seen" and appreciated.

I also remember from another thread wayback someone posting a different book with a similar idea. Or maybe it was the same one? When my BF got home that night I made him do the quizzes with me. It was actually a really neat exercise and while we know each other really well, I did learn some new things that I never thought to ask before. I'll give Dr. Phil a high five for these quizzes!!

I've read most of it... it actually has a lot of activities for you to do with a partner, so I need to get SO to read it, and I am not sure he's going to understand why I am trying to do marriage counseling type stuff before we are even engaged, lol! I got a book called 1,000 questions for couples... it was really interesting, and we only did about 100 or so questions, I shoudl start doing those again. Great for those days when you have nothing so say, since we are LDR.
