So, I went ahead and made the purchase and I got my diamond appraised (thanks to all of your help!).  I haven't even seen the diamond but I am very excited and not worried at all but I do have questions.

The dimensions that GOG gave to me are different then what the appraiser gave to me (up to .8%).  Is this marginal? Which one do you think is more reliable?

I inputed the new dimensions in HCA and got a difference of 2.4 for the old dimensions to 1.4 for the new appraiser's dimensions. i'm happy that it went down to 1.4 but i'm not really sure if that means all that much...

What are your thoughts?  Do you need to know the old vs. new dimensions?

Depends on what equipment the appraiser used to measure the dimension, so accuracy is dependent. GOG has one of the most high tech measuring system in the US outside of the major grading labs so I would trust their measure more.

Don't worry, some variance is normal between the various systems used.

Thank you all again.  I proposed and she accepted and she was thrilled with the proposal.  I feel very lucky that everything went so smoothly.  I promised in threads a long time ago to post a picture of the diamond and I will as soon as I can figure out how (I don't even own a camera).  I purchased the diamond and wired the money to my vendor, GOG (Good Old Gold) without ever having seen the diamond and I am pretty happy.  I know that I paid a bit of a premium for a good quality hearts and arrows diamond (nonbranded) and for the service that I received from GOG.  I'm not sure how close I could compare it to branded diamonds but during my consultation my appraiser said that the quality was comparable to a hearts on fire diamond.  After he said that my f's eyes got really big and the smile on her face was priceless.  I don't think she realized how many experts, on here, that I consulted!  I'm not really sure if the diamond I got is really on par with the quality of a HOF diamond but I am pretty happy knowing that I got good quality.

Looks fab nj! I think you should buy her (and you) a camera to go with. Then we can see more of her lovely ring.

Congrats, you did a great job!

I'm sorry... my fiancee has a camera and I actually have a digital camera that I won at a work event but I never opened... I'm just not a camera person.  I will try to get better pictures up so everyone can see.

I thought my attempt at taking a photo of our ring with my cell phone was laughable! =) Soooooo... I borrowed my fiancee's camera and threw away my cell phone camera.... I took like 50 shots of the ring with it in different lighting and here are three that I thought looked pretty good. I find myself getting slowly addicted to pricescope... is that strange?  I'm a guy... should I be this interested in diamonds?

Anyway, I had to resize the images and mess around with the quality of the pics in order to meet the file size requirement so I'm hoping they still turn out ok... here goes.

Sure, the ring size is a 4.25...  She has smaller than average fingers so I like how the diamond looks on her hand.  I think it makes it look even bigger!!!

NJ- I just saw you posting and thus came hunting for the finished product (got worried for a minute you didn't post any pics!!)- it is stunning!  Congrats!

P.S with regards to your statement:
"I'm not really sure if the diamond I got is really on par with the quality of a HOF diamond but I am pretty happy knowing that I got good quality."
 - take it to a HOF dealer and compare it to the HOF stones and you will know/see with your own eyes that it does indeed compare!!

Wow!  I'm starting to feel a bit inferior now.  LOL.  That thing is Ginormous!  Mine will look like a sidestone in comparison.  Uh-oh.....I think I may have diamond envy.

Congrats though....that is definitely a beauty!  Well done.  Now, just promise to never EVER show those pics to my girl!  LOL
