Hey y'all! I'm a nit-picky fiance-to-be (as soon as I find "the" ring!). The setting I imagine does not seem to exist though!

I'm looking for a halo setting with pave diamonds on the band also- for an asscher or emerald (I haven't decided which to get yet). The stone will be around 1.5 ct.

The problem:

I'm looking for a halo that has cropped corners. BUT- I want fishtail prongs (no beading, etc.)! Is it even possible to get fishtail prongs with a cropped corner halo? For a stone of that size?

Any suggestions? There is a beautiful Henri Daussi setting that I love- but it doesn't have cropped corners. http://www.henridaussi.com/ (go to engagement rings- it's the 6th ring down on the right).

Another question- how do you feel about leaving space between the center stone and the halo? The Henri Daussi I saw had a bit of space between the large (VERY LARGE though) emerald diamond and the diamond halo-- it looked beautiful.

Thanks for the input!!

Two things.  I like an airline (space between the halo and center stone), however, not so much for an engagement ring.  I think that style is better suited for a right hand ring but of course that is personal opinion.  I think I understand why you want an angled corner setting because it will highlight the cropped corners of the stone.  Unfortunatley after looking at a lot of settings I did not find too many that had that.  Reason being, a lot of the cropped cornerd halo settings the stones are set in a bezel which leads to the flow of the halo.  With a prong setting that is difficult because the prongs sort of hide the corners.  I'll look around and see what I can find but it might be hard with what you are describing.  The best suggestion i have is to work with a custom designer and see what they can come up with.  Good luck.  I'll still look for some more pics.

Here is a good example of the cut corners with small prongs but its not the prong style you want.  http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=60

This prong style is more like what you are looking for, right?  http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=447

EM1,

Thanks! That is more of what I'm looking for- although it's a bit hard to tell from the side. I love the look of just the diamonds- not a lot of metal. I was thinking that the airline would make the halo larger, and maybe it would be easier to have cropped corners.

I totally get what you mean.  When we were looking for a setting, what you are describing are exactly the sketches that I made.  It wasn't until we went and saw a lot of setting in person that I changed my mind as to what I wanted.  So, my point is that maybe you should take a look at these in person.  I'm not trying to dissuade you of something because it is exactly what I set out wanting.  Really you need a good designer to do a CAD or something for you so that you can see what it will look like.  The airline may help, don't know.   I wish there were pics of the leon settings from the side.

Ok, so, I'm still thinking about this and I thought of something.  For reference there is a good close up of my setting here:  http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=105757

Ok, if you look at that pic you will notice that the halo on my setting is really tiny.  The stone is large so I didn't want an overwhelming halo.  Something small that would accentuate the stone.  In order to do what you are describing (highlighting the corners), you'd have to either make the halo bigger with in your case, larger stones, or create an airline.  For reference, you'll see in my setting, that the setting curves around the corners and goes in on the flat sides.  I believe that is mostly because the setting flows around the prongs.  This is really hard to explain and so much easier to show you in person but I hope you can picture what I am saying.

I agree with EM1 regarding the airline on an ER. If I were to have a haloed asscher, this is the one I would choose:

Hi, I was looking for a halo for my asscher for quite a while. Most designers will adapt their settings for different shaped stones. The HD setting you like... call a retailer and ask them if the designer offers it for EC's with a more octagonal outline.

Alternately, Leon or Maytal or Ocean should be able to do it custom for you.
