I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now doing lots of research and trying to make a sound decision on which diamond to purchase.  I've been with my GF for almost 3 years now and I plan on proposing on our anniversary in March.  I'm leaning towards the Legato band in Platinum as she has small fingers.

I'm looking for a round Hearts and Arrows diamond and found these few in my price range.  Unfortuantely I still don't quite understand the best crown and pavillion angles so I was hoping one of you veteran diamond people could help assist :)

Diamond #1 0.901 ct F SI1

Diamond #2 1.002 ct I VS1

Diamond #3 1.083 ct H SI1

Diamond #4 1.005 ct H SI1

I will of course make sure the S1's are eye clean before purchasing.  Thanks for your input!

ACAs have a narrow target of proportions, and are really consistent, so if your pool of contenders are all ACAs, you don't need to understand angles.

The I VS1 is out.

Check if any are not eye-clean. Those are out.

Welcome!

They all look good, so check on the eyeclean factor for the SI as you say, then if you are having trouble choosing ask for one of the WF reps to evaluate the diamonds for you to give you an idea of various performance subtleties.

Ditto.

And I love the Legato! Perfect.

"It is also important for the State to inculcate in its subjects an aversion to any 'conspiracy theory of history' for a search for 'conspiracies' means a search for motives and an attribution of responsibility for historical misdeeds."

-Murray N. Rothbard, in The Anatomy of the State

John Swinton [1829-1901] Chief Editorial Writer of the New York Times (Considered "the Dean of his Profession" by his peers), when asked to toast an 'Independent Press' in a gathering at the National Press Club, circa 1880

"There is no such thing in America as an independent press unless it is in the country towns. You know it, and I know it. There is not one of you who dare express an honest opinion. If you express it you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid... for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for doing similar things....

The business of the New York journalist is to distort the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of Mammon, and sell his country and race for his daily bread, or for what is about the same thing, his salary. You know this, and I know it and what foolery to be toasting an 'independent press.' We are tools, and the vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are jumping-jacks. They pull the strings and we dance. Our time, our talents, our lives, our possibilities, all are the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

Sorry to hijack this thread, but JulieN why is the I VS1 out? Is it because of the scratch on the surface? I'm just curious and still trying to learn. Good luck on your search OP!

After cut, most people try for a higher color rather than a higher clarity, since a hint of color is generally visible in I, but usually you can't see anything at all in SI1.
