Right now I have three diamonds that are 1.5 carats or larger (2 princesses, 1 pear). If I sell two, I can use the money to upgrade the one from Whiteflash. I have not decided yet what I will do. So I'm curious as to what others would do (yes, I know the choice is ultimately mine, yada yada yada. So the question is would you rather have one big bling (2cts or more) or several nice sized riings? ( 1 1/2 carats used to be considered huge!)

Oh this is an easy one for me to answer - definitely a boulder.

I would definitely rather have one big, quality rock than several smaller ones. I'm actually in the process of selling all my random jewelry and upgrading to a few high quality pieces.

I had the same choice when I got my e-ring I could have got the same ct weight diamond just lower clarity and colour and a smaller cushion diamond for the same price as the one I picked FI and I stayed with the original one we picked. I might be the lone voice but really is is up to you and what ultimately makes you happy :). __________________________________________________________ ![]() Sometimes if your really lucky all your dreams do come true ............... |

I want a stone of every shape and for me 1.5 carats is a nice size, so I'd probably go with several 1.5 carat stones over one big stone. I would attempt to trade in one of the princess stones, though, since you have two. Did one of the princesses come from Whiteflash? If so, you could trade it in for another shape ![]() It sounds like two of these stones don't have a trade-in policy and one does. My only fear is that if you sell the two without any trade-in policy, you won't get anything near what you paid. I know that isn't your primary concern and at least they'd be going towards a WF stone with a trade-in policy, I just hate to see you lose money by going the "one stone" route.

Hi! When I decided to start a collection, I knew that I wanted at least 1 stone of each shape. In order to do that, I knew I would have to get smaller sized stones - so - I voted for the 3 smaller stones rather than 1 large one.

I guess I lucked out since the other two were reasonable ebay aquisitions, but yeah, you lose so much money. A local jeweler offered me 2K for the pear. It just seems so low

My concern is that you are going to lose a lot of money by selling/trading it in without a buy/trade-in policy. It might be best to just leave them alone.

As long as the three you have are nice quality, I'd go for the three vs. the one larger stone. That way you can switch between them when you want a different look or you can wear one as an e-ring and one as a RHR. I'm not a huge stone person though. Having said that, if the 3 are low quality, then I'd go for the bigger good quality single stone. I also agree that if one of the princesses is the one from WF that maybe you could see about trading that in and getting a different shape.

Oh--I was in this position... If you don't wear them, and you don't need options--I vote one. Ultimately, I decided I need options, so I have 2 stones that I will upgrade over time, and one permanent. My upgrades will mainly be shape changes--rather than size jumps. Do you feel you'll need options in the future, Sizzle? Coati, G.G. |

I really think it depends on the person. While I love the look of big stones on others, really huge stones look odd on my small, somewhat stubby hands. So I'd take several medium-large stones instead of one big one, but that doesn't mean that should be the same for everyone.

Three. I'd never wear a big boulder. Just not my style. With the three, one would go into a ring and the other two would go into a pair of earrings.

Boulder! I would think you'd be reaching for it more often... I know I would! It's nice to have several options, but I think the one big sparkly stone would make you forget the others...forget....wha? What was I saying??? That's what happens when I see Harriet's avatar, at least. LOL.BUT I would not do so at the cost of losing $$$ on trading in the other stones. I'd save up for the big yummy and keep the others.
