Hi - I was wondering if anyone knew whether Barmakian Jewelers sends the diamond to Saturn to be set or does Barmakian set the diamond themselves?

Good question. I was looking at Saturn through Barmakian to reset my EC. I spoke with Saturn and they said that they would need to make a custom setting to fit my stone [it is bigger than most] so I assumed that they would be setting the stone too. They also mentioned that, generally, they do custom work so I would not expect that the setting you see at Barmakian would be the one you end up with. You might want to contact Saturn directly and ask them the question. They are very nice.

I don't have any experience with Barmakian, but I have spoken with Saturn. If the stone fits the setting and no adjustments need to be made, then the authorized jeweler can usually set it. If it's more complicated, then they'll probably send it to Saturn. Do you have a particular setting in mind? We'd love to see it.

It's the AD622 setting, the setting in the store was for a round diamond and mine is a cushion. Lightnbug has the same setting and has posted pictures and it is beautiful. Blu, what setting are you looking at?

It had french cut sapphires in it as I recall and it was made for a large rectangular stone. The closest thing I could find is the AD269 setting on the Saturn site. ============================ |

I spoke to Joseph at Saturn regarding LB's exact setting. Hers is a cushion center with a cushion halo, and it's AD728. You probably want that setting; unlike putting a round in a cushion halo (which he said could be done with LB's setting), I don't think you can do the reverse and put a cushion in a round halo.

Thanks Cell. The jeweler said the AD622 could be modified into a cushion shape so hopefully that will look like LB's. What do you think?

I would want to know exactly what Barmakian means by "modified", and who would be doing the work (them, or Saturn?). I can't imagine that Saturn would modify a round setting if they already make a model that would fit your stone more exactly. You can't stretch a halo out of shape without popping out melee or compromising the structural integrity. You can't even stretch a ring to make a larger size if it has pave on the shank. I guess I would encourage you to call Saturn directly. I spoke to Joseph, and he was most gracious and helpful. He offered to help me locate this setting if I was really interested. He would be able to tell you if a round halo could be modified to fit a cushion, but I'm almost positive he'll refer you to the AD728. Also, I'm fairly sure Saturn has a waranty on their pieces (they'll replace melee if they fall out), but if a jeweler (even an authorized one) does too much modifying, it may void that. Another thing to ask Saturn about. Good luck, keep us posted.

My e-ring and wband are both Saturn from Barmakians. The e-ring was set by Saturn because they needed to make a custom head to fit the stone. If it hadn't needed that, I believe they would do it right at Barmakians. I found the people I worked with at Barmakians to be really helpful though, so if you want them to set it at Saturn, I would think that they would be willing to accomodate that request.

Hi again, just spoke with Joseph at Saturn - very helpful! Saturn will do all modifications and if anything were ever to happen to the melee it will be covered by Saturn. Good company - beautiful settings!

The tiny halo and band are dainty, and the profile is old-fashioned and unusual. It's also very comfortable! I'm glad to hear that the people at Saturn are nice to work with.

cushionawesomeness - that's great news about Saturn. Please promise to post pics when it's finished! lightningbug - I first learned about Saturn when you posted your ring on someone else's thread; I saved your pics and still have them on my laptop. Don't be shy, start a thread! In fact, I'd love to see even more pics.

I tried taking pics the other day but they didn't come out so good. Will try again tonight. My ring is identical twins with yours lbug. I'm really nervous with it though becasue it looks so delicate and I'm not the easiest person on my jewelry, lbug have you had any problems with yours, ie. hitting your hand on on something and bending the setting?

cushion: keep trying with the pics - we're not gonna let you off that easy! Macro mode, no flash, make sure the focus-box (when you depress the button halfway) is on the diamond or portion of ring you want in-focus, and hold the camera really still - you should get decent shots. Can't wait - I'm sure it's gorgeous!

ohh exciting! another Saturn pics pics please.I also have a Saturn... almost from Barmakian's.... but it was Descenza's instead ![]() Barmakian's are nice-- I have several things from them. Saturn-- Joseph is Super nice. I was going to get my wedding band from them but changed my mind. They are great with getting back to you and also about sending additional pics. I noticed that Barmakian's have been copping many of the Saturn designs... but they are a tad bulkier. good luck cushionawesomeness-- cant wait to see pics

Yay, a ring twin! And no, I haven't had any problems at all with it being delicate, and I'm very klutzy! :) I really think it's sturdier than it looks. The only think that I struggle with is that I sometimes feel self-conscious about how blingy it is on my stubby little fingers (very short size 4). Even though the halo is thin, it's a beautiful, dramatic ring. Sometimes I look down at my hand and think WOOSH...that's a lot of diamond! But...I'm originally from the Midwest, from a frugal family...so I can't help it, lol. I want to see it on your hand so I can just enjoy the darned thing without feeling all this Midwestern guilt! Pony up.

Aiiyeee! It's simply gorgeous on you! Congrats! (And it's surprisingly weird to see "my" ring twin on somebody else's hand, LOL)! :-) Do you like it??? What are the specs on your stone? It really sparkles, and I think it's definitely larger than mine; it looks ginormous on your hand, in a very good way! More pics.

Date: 2/4/2009 10:00:31 PM I love it! It is so pretty and delicate. My stone is 1.51 cushion brilliant. It faces up a little small because the depth is 71% but it really sparkles!
