Hi, My husband bought me a snake chain platinum necklace with a diamond pendant for christmas. It was bought from Blue Nile. It looks wonderful, but I've noticed that the necklace has developed several kinks after less than a month (I have been wearing it almost every day tough). While it is probably not very noticeable to others, I really notice it! I am super careful with the necklace now, but I am afraid more will develop in the future. I emailed Blue Nile about the problem and the jewelers there said there is not way to remove the kinks once they develop. However, they offered to rhodium plate the necklace to lessen the appearance of the kinks. Has anyone heard of this? How will this look and do you really think this will help? I assume the rhodium will wear away with time anyway. Thanks for any help! |

I know that Rhodium can be applied to Platinum to maintain the high shine appearance longer. I don't understand how it would minimize the look of the kinks though..

Date: 1/16/2009 2:33:08 PM snake chains kink very easily and the rhodiums shine will help detract the eye away fron the kinked areas...you are right that i will wear off after a while...if they are offering then let them do this and they might be able to smooth the kinks out a bit...this is probably why they offered in the first place...to see just how bad the kinks are and if the piece can be refurbished.
